THIS is why you couldn't get me within a mile of any store between 11/1 and 1/2. I do ALL of my holiday shopping online.

THIS!!
I won't even go into B&N for my afternoon coffee until after New Year's.
And you know what else sucks from now until after the holidays? Driving.
Every geriatric is out slowing traffic to a c...r...a...w...l....

I just am in disbelief that people become animals for Black Friday shopping. There is no need to be that way. If you don't get something you want, deal with it. Find something else just as good. But, hitting people and getting into fights is ridiculous.

Look at the collection of videos ALREADY! Its not even noon on Friday and look whats out there! These people are just nuts! I agree with Taz. I can't even go into some of these places until after January 1st.Starbucks, the gas station, and the Grocery store is pretty much the only place I can go to.

Back when I did retail, I worked at a small Godiva Chocolate store in a very big mall. We did I million dollars in sales, my last Christmas back in the late 1980s.
1 million.
It was crazy.

I worked at the movies all through high school and college and didn't get any extra pay. It was always the standard rate.

Just like if you work in a church, you don't get time and a half on Sundays cause Sundays are part of the business's regular operating hours. I used to work in a 24 hour pharmacy. Since ALL days were considered regular business days, none were considered overtime, including holidays. The only thing that generated overtime was going over 40 hours in a week, regardless of what day it occurred on.

I used to work at a movie theater. If you worked Christmas day (before 4pm) you received holiday pay. I believe Thanksgiving night also had holiday pay, but I don't remember.
I work at a hotel now. We're open 24 hours, 7 days a week. We receive holiday pay. Your argument is invalid.

Really? Wow.
First of all, I'm not presenting an "argument". I'm conveying my experience to help shed some light on a question someone had.
Secondly, why is my "argument" invalid just because your experience is different than mine??? Why doesn't that difference make YOUR argument invalid?
I've worked in 24 hour pharmacies, live theaters and restaurants probably longer than you've been alive. That's not invalid argument. that's my experience. Just like what you stated is YOU'RE experience. And it seems DRSislove's experience agrees with mine.

It's not about placing blame, it's just showing a situation I would never put myself in. And I don't understand why others do it? They really are taking their lives into their hands.
Black Friday was a term that folks in retail used, but we never said it publicly. Now that word is out, it just seems like the Hunger Games.
Only in America do we camp out to shop early for things we don't need, the day after giving thanks for everything we have.

And she did the rubbing-her-fingers-together thing while yelling "Ker-Ching!"
So, I take it she was getting over time pay.
