While the guy who took and posted that video on Youtube presents it as if that guy is on a rampage to get gifts, if you look closely at that video you can see that the guy's wife (blonde) has been knocked to the floor and is being trampled. He runs back to save her. Meanwhile someone snatches the TV he had put down to help his wife so he snatches it back.
THIS is why you couldn't get me within a mile of any store between 11/1 and 1/2. I do ALL of my holiday shopping online.

THIS!!
I won't even go into B&N for my afternoon coffee until after New Year's.
And you know what else sucks from now until after the holidays? Driving.
Every geriatric is out slowing traffic to a c...r...a...w...l....

Posted: 11/29/13 at 9:19amYesterday we came upon an elderly couple at a dead stop right in the middle of a busy five-way intersection. They were sitting there arguing over which way to go while dozens of cars sat there honking at them. Maddening!

Yeah, I will not go to the mall now until January. And plan to avoid stores like Walmart on the weekends. I guess I feel lucky that I live in an area where I can go out locally during the week. Actually, if I wait until later, Walmart probably will be pretty empty because everyone headed to the malls. But, I will admit I did finish all my Christmas shopping last week to avoid the crowds and also in fear of my packages I ordered online will not get here for Christmas.
I just am in disbelief that people become animals for Black Friday shopping. There is no need to be that way. If you don't get something you want, deal with it. Find something else just as good. But, hitting people and getting into fights is ridiculous.

Watching Black Friday shoppers is the new wrestling. Set up a stadium with store shelves and electronics and insane prices and then watch the people fight to the death while you watch the jumbo screen while in your seat. Seriously. Someone will think of this and market it.

Look at the collection of videos ALREADY! Its not even noon on Friday and look whats out there! These people are just nuts! I agree with Taz. I can't even go into some of these places until after January 1st.Starbucks, the gas station, and the Grocery store is pretty much the only place I can go to.

Naw, wrestling (or at least the televised wrestling) is like live-filmed soap opera with muscles that has no bad aftertaste. This is just human cockfighting.

I told a friend I'd come by and see her after I get off work today. She works in one of the busiest Bath and Body Works in the nation. She told me that their base goal is $70K, while their premium goal is $120K. Yes. That's in thousands.
I can't even.

That's a small goal.
Back when I did retail, I worked at a small Godiva Chocolate store in a very big mall. We did I million dollars in sales, my last Christmas back in the late 1980s.
1 million.
It was crazy.

Posted: 11/29/13 at 11:04amI assume price points are different. One bottle of lotion is $12 give or take. How much was a box of chocolate?

"Why do you think that movie theater employees don't get holiday pay? "
I worked at the movies all through high school and college and didn't get any extra pay. It was always the standard rate.

Sundays and holidays are considered part of the regular operating hours for a business like that. It's not like an office where Mon to Fri are standard and they as you to work on a holiday to handle a special project.
Just like if you work in a church, you don't get time and a half on Sundays cause Sundays are part of the business's regular operating hours. I used to work in a 24 hour pharmacy. Since ALL days were considered regular business days, none were considered overtime, including holidays. The only thing that generated overtime was going over 40 hours in a week, regardless of what day it occurred on.

Posted: 11/29/13 at 11:56amThose Walmart videos are scary. They look even worse than the college party I went to years ago where some morons started a fight in the basement area. Thank goodness I sort of got shoved near a door to the outside.

I used to work at a movie theater. If you worked Christmas day (before 4pm) you received holiday pay. I believe Thanksgiving night also had holiday pay, but I don't remember.
I work at a hotel now. We're open 24 hours, 7 days a week. We receive holiday pay. Your argument is invalid.

"We receive holiday pay. Your argument is invalid."
Really? Wow.
First of all, I'm not presenting an "argument". I'm conveying my experience to help shed some light on a question someone had.
Secondly, why is my "argument" invalid just because your experience is different than mine??? Why doesn't that difference make YOUR argument invalid?
I've worked in 24 hour pharmacies, live theaters and restaurants probably longer than you've been alive. That's not invalid argument. that's my experience. Just like what you stated is YOU'RE experience. And it seems DRSislove's experience agrees with mine.

Adam, that's the link I posted....
It's not about placing blame, it's just showing a situation I would never put myself in. And I don't understand why others do it? They really are taking their lives into their hands.
Black Friday was a term that folks in retail used, but we never said it publicly. Now that word is out, it just seems like the Hunger Games.
Only in America do we camp out to shop early for things we don't need, the day after giving thanks for everything we have.

Jungle, Not to mention that in a post you made earlier in this thread you said, "Do you see movies on Thanksgiving and Christmas? Those people are probably not getting holiday pay. Those people are making minimum wage."

I stopped in the grocery store last night, and my favorite clerk was working. I said it must suck not to be with your daughter. She said she spent the entire day with her and is 'making bank' by coming in to work.
And she did the rubbing-her-fingers-together thing while yelling "Ker-Ching!"
So, I take it she was getting over time pay.
#72Who's Going Shopping On Black Thursday?
Posted: 11/29/13 at 1:56pmSpecial pay probably depends on where you work. I worked in a hotel/golf resort briefly a couple of years ago. I did not get extra money for working Easter. Wasn't there long enough to find out about Thanksgiving or Christmas. But, that job was a special place in hell because people who had access to all of the rooms usually stole the housekeeping staff's tips.
