Why are some of Idina's fans so...intense?

Now, I've been doing theatre for a long time and have seen a lot of people get really obsessed with a lot of stars, but this whole Idina Menzel craze has gotten a little out of control! I mean, check out this entry... https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?thread=851688&dt=052805031250
I guess I just don't understand the big deal. Why can't everyone just say, wow, she's talented, or yeah, he's good. Instead we have to choose one side or the other?

ATTENTION ALL IDINA MENZEL FANS: Idina is fabulous, and was great in Wicked and Rent, but other people are good too. Just because Shoshana Bean took over doesn't make her the anti-christ.

Anyway, I have an idea, from here on out, if you think Idina is better or Shoshana is better, say it with some tact...let's not call each other names, and make up lies about Shoshana, just because certain people haven't learned social rules yet, k?

Idina, and Shoshana are both fabulous, let's get over it, shall we?

Divacathe, I think the thread you linked was a stupid joke from someone who knew exactly what they were doing. I mean, come on, this person registers yesterday, posts an incredibly stupid post, calling a Broadway performer insulting names, and writes other things in TWO threads that were written to get a reaction.

This person is not to be taken seriously. By the way, read my sig. It's one of the things it wrote.

All in favor of carrying on this thread with complete disregard for idinamenzelfan500109, say "I." Good, we have a majority.

Now, I for one prefer Idina, and I couldn't really tell you why other than to link it back to Rent. I think it's stage presence thing, because heaven knows she can get pitchy at times. However, I feel that there is a lot of power and emotion that comes into her singing...not to mention on a non-talent related side...she has a great work ethic and rarely misses a performance when she's doing a show. That's something I really respect and I know that without a doubt it is difficult to sing night after night at the level Broadway performers have to sing.

I would prefer Idina but if Sho was a choice I would also want to see her. I like Idina more but I think Shoshana is just as good and has a different take on Elphaba. I wouldn't want to see a clone of Idina doing it. It could get boring after a while. Like I said in another post diversity is a great thing and makes broadway much more interesting. Yes lets definetly(sp?) get over it!

These kids are all hot and bothered for Idina NOW...but wait until they lose their virginity. Then THAT will be their passion.

It was like me with the Spice Girls. I "zig-a-zig-ahhed" all the time before I got my first piece.

I mean- I thought I was going to be a devoted fan for life (much to the dismay of my parents)...and then I grew up (sorta).

So give them all a few years...and they'll be raging and throbbing for something a little more "relevant" to their life. Like sex. Or drugs. Or maybe even church. Who knows? I chose to put ALL my pent up sexual frustration into my work...so now I work A LOT and I mean A LOT because god knows it's not like I can really get any so I'm going going to keep WORKING work work work until I work and just explode all over the place and then everyone will see that all this time I put into my work will just be worth it because I don't need sex...I don't need sex. AND I DON'T NEED IDINA. Ugh.

Waking up to Sister Act 2 on the stereo is really dangerous for the mind...
