Why be negative?

Being a first time "board user" I am amazed at the negativity. Can someone explain why people are so bored and negative?

You must find something about it appealing. Otherwise, I would be amazed that you would bother posting somewhere you feel is so negative.

Gracie - that's something that's been discussed here many times. The reality is, there is no 'reason' for it other than certain people choose to be that way. You'll get all sorts of arguements as to how and why they justify their attitudes, but it still just boils down to their choice.

By the way - welcome to the board! And just so you know, not all of us are negative re: Why be negative?

As a person who's been on the net for eight years, I can tell you that there is no such thing as an open, freely moderated discussion forum that doesn't constantly bog down into negativity. Usually, in open conversation, the sarcastic or silly "put down" remarks are quickly laughed at through body language and hugs. So one has to adjust one's thinking, when confronting negativity, to default to "laugh" rather than "i'm being attacked."

There's also a yin and yang factor. The good and the bad balance out. I've only started posting here myself and I have to say I've been meeting some very nice people who really seem to like and support each other -- and their love for theatre.

Welcome to you, as well, Steve! And thanks for your thoughts, which I happen to agree with.

Why be negative?

Because they can. It's completely anonymous. They can say whatever they want to you because they know YOU don't know who THEY are.

If we were all sitting in the same room discussing this stuff, everyone would be much calmer because they know they could get their face bashed in for attacking someone, like they so casually do here.

This thread belongs to the off-topic.
I don't think people is negative. People just say what they think.
It's funny 'cause to some of you, the negative seems to be the wicked-fans-bashers and the "good guys" seems to be the emptyheads wicked lovers.

Welcome, darling!

As for negative posts- just let them be. If someone says something directed at you (highly unlikely), just be mature about it. I, for one, am tired of the hissy fits over stupid stuff or Idina Menzel (however fun they may be.)

Negativity is a natural component of our make up. A little negativity is OK especially in our humor, as long as we don't forget to be kind to others.

Anybody else notice that Gracie2 responded to herself up there? I'm thinking she forgot to log off and log back in again as her other identity.

I can postitively say that I love Namo. But I did find G2"s response to Pol to be on the negative side, dude.
