They rescinded that rule quite a while ago.

As for me, the first time I mentioned youtube in a post (probably my third or fourth), everyone jumped on me going, "SHHHH!" I think I was talking about the Tony telecast of The Lion King... anyway, I always assumed up until now that it was verboten. Nice to know otherwise.

However, I do know that mentioning youtube videos on other sites has led to deletion before (of the videos, not of users).

I mean, there's a thread on this page with the word YouTube in the title.

Because every time you type the word "YouTube" a cute chorus boy somewhere twists his ankle.

Well, at least the homely ones are safe.

Oooooh! So you mean when people mentioned "the site that shall not be named" they meant youtube?

I always thought it was referring to pornotube. No wonder I could never find the right clips.

Taz, I'm sure you found the RIGHT videos, you just didn't find the ones they were talking about.

Hahaha. No a real answer is fine, at least from you, toots. :)

I wonder, though, has Seth Rudetsky gotten clearance to play those songs in his videos. If not, is BWW going to be liable in the inevitable RIAA suit?

I think that BWW is against youtube when it comes to posting clips of Broadway bootlegs. As for the whole Seth thing. I am sure that it is okay if you bought the music legally.

So, by your interpretation of the law, if I bought a cd I could play it on tv? Updated On: 4/11/09 at 09:50 PM

Actually, he'd need to clear broadcast rights for the songs, unless the excerpts you're using could be termed "fair use."

Because, if you look in a mirror and repeat that name three times a copywright lawyer materializes behind you...
