They link to Billy Graham on their website.

I'm disappointed to see that the number 1-800-NEED-HIM has been taken. I wan't to secure that for a whole different kind of internet business.

I remember when some Christian catalog wouldn't leave me alone after I bought some obscure VHS movie version of Les Misérables. I sent "remove me!" notes to them over and over.

They finally took me off their list when I sent them a giant Darwin Fish drawn in Sharpie.

"I think I missed something, what was so offensive about it? All I caught was that they were sharing their beliefs in a passive way."

uh Becky, they support Billy Graham.....NUFF SAID

I've emailed them to cancel the order and stop shipment, and I'll call in the AM

Messages from the Bible on a Pizza box? I'm sure the Jewish and Muslim not to mention atheist etc customers just loooove that, don't they know they alienate part of their customers by doing this? *sighs*

It makes me mad when beliefs get in the way of business. I would like to patron a shop or a resteraunt or an internet business without being preached to. It's fine to believe it, but when you start hoisting your message on your products and such it's bordering Jack Chick...

i agree static, i quit buying ben and jerry's ice cream because of the long winded polemics on the cartons. that and those little itty bitty cartons just scream, "eat me in one sitting you ice cream god!"

Ah - I don't see that post here. I had this poster blocked at one point, I think it's filtering things - because it seems very disjointed when I read it. And Papa - anything for a pinch from you!

Unless I missed soemthing... where did it say anything about 'faggots'?

That was Elphaba's addition.

Christianity and homophobia are NOT synonymous.
They are, unfortunately, linked on many of the threads on BWW.

Was there more to the site than what was posted?

Then the more accurate title of this thread would be... I just spent money buying something from a company which is connected to an anti-gay standpoint.

Again. Not all Christians are homophobic.

Addy is totally right, I really should have approached this differently. I know, from their website what christian groups they support, and they are anti-gay......but as Addy explains it doesn't mean all christians are like this. My sister is christian and she totally supports my relationship with Steve.

As for cheeze, cracks me up that he can't see what I post, yet will comment on it without reading it...

Cheeze, I ALWAYS admit when I am wrong......and I was in this case.

and no idea why you have chosen to dislike me...and actually in the long run, I don't care....there are enough great people here for me to communicate with and get to know.

Next time......before you make a silly post about something I have written, READ the post, ok? Or better yet, just leave me on ignore, better for both of us I think.

And I will definately look before I leap, next time I make a post. Sorry Addy, and others I may have offended.

And Happy Pride to you, Cheeze

and as MANY said in their posts......the order was cancelled. I don't make it a habit to check out every internet company I buy from.......I will however in the future.

Thank you, Elphaba.

It isn't that I was offended as much as I think we all tend to make broad statements which don't accurately portray our feelings. And in so doing we perpetuate stereotypes which deepens the divide... I was simply challenging the accuracy of your initial post.

I have no tolerance for anti-gay actions and beliefs. I'm glad you voted with your wallet and returned the item.

Anyone feel like we should resurrect serious topic of the day? This is a good one (voting with your wallet/political beliefs).

Yes Elphaba - I read what was in view to me at the time of my post. Again - it seems odd to me that you would actually consider - and place - an order somewhere that is offensive to you. But hey - that's just me. This was not a call to action thread but a thread in which you stated you were making a purchase to a business that had posted christian values on the site.

No where in there did it denounce gay's or a lifestyle - and if you took the statement and read it in any congregation of Metroplitan Community Church a vast majority of members would indeed agree with that statement. It was you (Elphaba) who read the faggot issue into it - and that is just as dangerous an act as it is for the Right Wing community who spews hate.

Did I personally find it offensive?
No.
Do I find it innapropriate?
Possibly.

But we all have rights and choices - they have the right to post their beliefs, and I as a consumer, have the right to decide whether or not to do business with them based on my own beliefs.

I don't believe I made a silly post - it was an error - pure and simple.

Timing

Hmmm.

My reading of this was that Elphaba did not in fact notice the politics until after he had ordered the converter belt.

"SO.......I am looking for a specific cheap currency converter, and a specific type of money belt-clip-thing. I finally find them at the same place, order them, AND THEN read about the company, and see this:"

So the issue was, once ordered, do you cancel the order when you discover the politics of the site. After a wee bit of deliberation, that is exactly what Elphaba did.

Assumptions were made about the political views regarding gays because of its affiliation with a specific religious group.

Not all "Christians" hate homosexuals, but some do. And there was an assumption that because some of the groups supported and referenced, that this company most likely supported gay bashing.

So, I am trying to find where the drama is in all of this.

I don't believe there was any drama.

Merely an interesting, and informative discussion...
