Ok, I'm not giving up on this.

Several old CDs that I lost that were burned onto my PC. This is pre-iPod, so they were burned as wma files, and they were all "protected" so I can't just import them into iTunes.

For some reason, Windows Media Player does not recognize my burner. It's a CD/DVD burner, could this be why? I even upgraded to the latest version of Media Player, to no avail. I still get the "connect a burner and restart the Player" message." It said that there should be a way to convert the files to mp3, but I can't seem to find it. I've been trolling around for info, and it end up in the same dead-end spot. Any ideas? Suggestions? (other than reinvesting in the lost CDs)

This is a good, free program for converting wma to mp3:

Maybe you could try downloading a different CD burning program? download.com should have a ton of free programs.

Yeah ... the files are protected wmas, so only Windows Media Player can open them.

And this is for some CDs I had put on my computer a while back. I've learned my lesson since.

Can you right-click on the file? Sometimes you will see an option to Convert Audio Format.

Woo-hoo! Issue solved. I can burn the music through winamp.
