You guys know the system pack that just came out for XP that was supposed to increase security and come with a pop-up blocker for your computer? Well, I just installed it. With the exception of Netscape (my Internet browser), I can't get a lot of things to open! Including My Pictures and My Documents (I was trying to change my desktop background). Also, my AIM keeps shutting down. Has anyone had problems?

I know it sounds stupid now, but you shouldn't have installed it. That thing is notoriously buggy- I think Microsoft stopped distributing it. Maybe you can do a System Restore? Updated On: 9/12/04 at 09:24 PM

Grrr....why the f*ck did Costco have them out then!

How long would a restore take, and could I lose any files?

I was just about to reboot my system, and it said all my files would be deleted. I hate this. This computer has been nothing but problem after problem.

I don't think a System Restore takes very long. I think it basically restores your computer to the state it was in at the date you choose. So you'll lose any files, bookmarks, etc. that you've made since that day, and obviously anything you installed- like the Service Pack.

I am not going to worry about it now...thank goodness my Microsoft Works still opens, because I have to finish up an English essay.

And since my computer is not hooked up to a working printer at the moment, I'm just going to post my essay on a forum, go on a different computer tomorrow, copy and paste it, and print it out.

Or...e-mail it to yourself as an attachment. You'll keep the formatting that way.

Just something I heard- after you do the System Restore, if you still want to install the System Pack (there is good stuff in there, too) I think there's a fix on the Microsoft website. Check for it- it should have good instructions, too.
