Winnie the Pooh

Just realized no one started a thread on this!

The movie is absolutely spectacular. The music is absolutely beautiful, the songs fit in with the original tone of Winnie the Pooh perfectly, the animation is the most gorgeous I've seen in years, the new voice are very much welcomed. I thought it was going to be weird hearing all new people (besides Jim Cummings who stays on as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, too) voice these iconic characters, but EVERYONE is perfect.

Craig Ferguson now plays Owl and is absolutely hysterical and almost steals the entire movie. Tom Kenny (voice of Spongebob Squarepants) now plays Rabbit and Kristin Anderson-Lopez, who co-wrote the new songs with Bobby Lopez, now voices Kanga.

The movie itself is SO funny. I went the entire movie with a huge smile on my face. The humor is very now and very modern, but at the same time, it fits in the world of these characters and pays homage to the original movie. One of my new favorite Winnie the Pooh quotes is "You ever have one of those days where you just can't win, Eeyore?"

If you haven't seen it, you must. The big picture on screen is just beautiful and it really takes you back to your childhood.

I agree that they were stupid to release it this weekend. They should have waited until a weekend came about where there were none (or only a couple) of children's movies coming out. But, I thought it was beautiful and amazing. Loved every second!

We want to see it, but honestly, are turned off by the extremely short running time. We're selective as anything now about our movies - paying 12 bucks for a little over an hour just seems extreme.

That said, we do have 5.75 movie day on Tuesdays here. Can't go tomorrow, but maybe next week if it's still out.

My wife was convinced they were going to move the opening when she realized it was against HP. Oh well.

I think their line of thinking was the little kids who couldn't see Harry Potter, would be taken to see Winnie the Pooh. It was a horrible, horrible idea. Opened at No. 6 making 8M when Disney wanted 13M. SO unfortunate. They should have opened it earlier this month or next week. Disney always does this. Princess and the Frog opened opposite Avatar. Someone needs to be fired.

That's really understandable, believe me. I feel the same way. But it's the perfect running time for this. It doesn't leave you wanting less or more. It's just right.

Captain America is one of their releases, they wouldn't put two of their films against each other.

I don't know why they did a Cars 2 in the first place.

That's not true, I do know - but I always thought Pixar went for quality over the quick buck. The original Cars wasn't that great to begin with, and I've heard nothing but disappointment about the sequel.

They were bound to misstep eventually, but Cars 2 was falling off a cliff (seeing as it had a 35% rating on Rottentomatoes).

Well little kids are the target audience, and my 8 year old LOVED Cars 2. He also loved the first one. My son is a little too old for Winnie though. As far as the length of the movie, it's probably so short because little kids the age that would go to see it would lose interest.

I saw it yesterday with my 2 nieces (2 and 4) and I thought it was absolutely delightful. The short film about the LochNess monster before it was also wonderful (in the style of their 40's and 50's shorts). It is the perfect length for the target age and they manage to get in 2 great stories in there. It is very similar the the original film (which is okay by me). Those without children to use as an excuse to go should check it out. I think it's one of Disney's best non-Pixar films in ages. Lots of jokes aimed at the adults too.
