Based on Neil Gaiman's recommendation I read this book. OY! WHY u would think there was a movie there i dunno. The book is so padded w adjective laden descriptions i despaired of a plot sometimes. ( i remembered a description of another book "whale blubber cut with embroidery scissors") Not to mention at least 3 specific episodes that have NOTHING to do w the story or character development but add only a picaresque element. You would have thought he was being paid by the word!
I" get" magical alternate universes- been reading them for years- but seriously,this grated on me and i had to force myself to finish the book. I'm guessing they simplified it to concentrated on the love story element for the movie then got bogged down w all the semi religious overtones. Gonna pass.
