Yet another first in Texas:

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Frances Newton was executed Wednesday for the fatal shootings of her husband and two children 18 years ago, becoming the third woman, and first black woman, to be put to death in Texas since executions resumed in 1982.

What other Western coutries execute women?

The issue isn't about women, is it? If they're going to execute, then why should women be exempt? Do any other western countries execute men or women?

not for nothing, but why should there be an exception to a rule based on gender? i mean i can understand an aversion to the death penalty itself but it just seems silly to base that on chromosomes.

*update* cm2 get outta my head!

Women wanted equality, it has to be equal punishment too.

Well, I'm glad he got away with it.

Just to bring this back on topic, the death penalty is something you object to on grounds of humanity, not gender or race.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

So why do we get equal punishment, but still not have equal pay for equal work?

Obviously, I titled this thread incorrectly. I wanted to point out the fact that our evolving standards are of indecency and not decency.

Whether it be a man or a woman, or even possibly a child as some jurisdictions may desire, this nightmare of the death penalty is a cancer on our nation's sense of civility and is an embarrassment.
