Women's social rights are not essential to democracy

I was looking through http://www.crooksandliars.com/ and found two clips fron the Sunday political shows which made me stop and think what are these Republicans thinking?

The first is a clip from ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Mr Stephanopoulos brings forth the fact that members of the Iraqi police that we are training are not a cohesive unit, but rather members who are deeply divided by their loyalties to different parties in Iraq. To this Sen. George Allen (R-VA) responds by saying that we have the same problem in the U.S. He states we have local police, state police, FBI.

The second clip is from Meet The Press. In the program there is a debate over what the law of Iraq will eventually be and that some reports from Iraq's ambassador are hinting at a constitution where women's rights are significantly curtailed. When Mr.Reuel Marc Gerecht, resident fellow of the American Enterprise Institute, is asked if there is cause for worry, he responded with "women's social rights are not critical to the evolution of democracy," and "...if the Iraqis could develop a democracy that resembled America's in 1900, we'd all be thrilled."

I selected these two clips because I think they share a similar voice with part of the President's radio address on Saturday. In it, one of the things he says is that " we're spreading the hope of freedom." Interesting how we are not bringing freedom but the hope of freedom. I can only think that our leader is laying the groundwork for the inevitable result of this war. Which is, that all of the forecasts for the spreading of freedom and the liberation of an oppressive government were beyond our reach.

I saw similar information quoted as I was watching Bill Mahr's show last night. The response the republicans on the show gave to Bill raising these questions about how women's rights were being abandoned was simply, "do you want Saddam back in power?"
and some idiocy about how the women are actually doing better and the usual nonesence that since you can't believe everything in the paper then NONE of it is true.

More than anything else I think my problem with all of the conservates being in power is they seem to lack the ability to answer any question logically. I keep thinking, I disagree but your arguement is so stupid it can't even be argued against, except with a punch to the cerebellum.

and then of course I'd be a terrorist who attacked rather than just one in waiting since I'm a member of Amnesty International.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
