I saw a bit of this last year, and they're showing the most recent one from August on HGTV now.

Have any of you living on the East Coast ever been to this? It sounds crazy!
A "yard sale" that runs through 5 states!
127 goes right through my old hometown and the yard sale is insane. Traffic is a nightmare and the craziest people come out of the woodwork for it, but it can be fun wandering around in it all.
It does look a bit like the longest Freak Show in the world, kel!
Probably part of its appeal. (Most of its appeal?)
I loved watching all the weirdness on the HGTV specials... but I don't think I'd love that traffic. Hmmm.
Yeah, the freak show aspect is a HUGE pull, but you can also find some cool stuff there, too. I found some beautiful handmade quilts from the late 1800s that were a fortune, but if I'd had the money I would have swiped them up in a heartbeat.
Well, if it's a big "pricey parade," I'd just as well skip it.
Unless there are bargains galore on this shopping road trip extravaganza, why put up with all the heavy traffic of "interesting" (aka, freaky) people?
Most things are very affordable, but there are some "Pricey" items here and there. The first time I went to the sale my bog highlight was getting a PS2 for $20.
I've heard about it, and it is one of those insane things I would like to do someday, just because it seems random. Maybe I can do it for a vacation one year.

There's a similar one in Arkansas, that goes along Hwy 64 called "Bargains Galore on Route 64" or something inane like that. There really is a LOT of great stuff, and really cheap.
What I did today reminded me of this post. The animal shelter I work with has a couple of yard sales a year, and this weekend we are having one. It is the first time I'm involved, since I just started working with this group over the summer. It may not be the world's longest yard sale, but it is pretty big. We take over a large portion of a theme park in the area.
It gets ridiculous though because we take donations the entire week, we have to set it all up, and we get so much stuff that we don't know what to do with all of it. However, thanks to volunteering to set up, we get to look at all the items and take whatever we want to buy ahead of time. I walked away today with probably over $100 worth of stuff for $10.
And I have to say that people are really not careful with what they donate sometimes. I went through a bag and found a bunch of pairs of used children's underwear. Obviously I threw that stuff out.
