Worried about my friends body image
#0Worried about my friends body image
Posted: 8/25/06 at 9:54pmOkay, I have a bit of a concern, but my friend has only spoken to me about this so I can't ask our other friends. Anyway, I have a very good friend who lately is starting to worry me. She always measures her food, and gets upset if she eats one chips or something. The thing is, she is thin, at least to me she is. She is 5'0 tall and weighs 105 pounds, and wears a jean size 0-2, and her shirts are all XSmalls. The thing is I love her and she is starting to worry me because she is always talking about how fat she is. Recently she lost 5 pounds, so she went from 105 to 100, but now she gained it back and is obsessing over losing those last 5 pounds. Now, this may sound crazy, but isn't my friend thin?? The reason I am asking is cause I know when you love someone you don't see their true image for what it is, but in my eyes she is thin and beautiful!!! I am just concerned about her, and I don't want her to develop an eating disorder. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

This is going to sound harsh and blunt but:
If you care about her enough, you would tell a someone (an older person who knows what to do or could help)
In the end, it will help.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:00pmI have told my mother and she plans to talk to her mother. The problem is her parents are crazy busy, and her father is always away on business. That could be contributing to the problem though. Thanks

I don't know how old you are or how you know her but if you are in school with her, you could tell a school psychologist or something.
Also, I think there are some hotline numbers to call and get help- either for her to call or you to call and ask what would be the best way to help her.

My friends all have similar issues. As the "average American woman" this does not make me feel real great. So, I agree with SweetQ, but also remember that YOU too are beautiful
