Our office is doing a 'worst Halloween costume' ever contest so I thought I'd share my completely true entry.
The scars run deep ...
"I was in the third grade and was getting ready for my Cub Scout Halloween Party. When I was in grade school, EVERYONE was a cub scout, even the 5th graders who, as we all know, can be a tough crowd to impress. Now if you would have seen my bedroom as a boy you’d have noted a common theme: Spider-Man. I had Spider-Man wallpaper, bed sheets and underoos. I even had a Spider-Man ski mask that, even though it made it about 200 degrees on my face, I wore most days while running about the neighborhood, saving everyone from evil. So logic would state that going into my big Cub Scout Halloween Party that I MIGHT have wanted to go as Spider-Man. I mean, one kid had a mask that lit up for Pete’s sake, this was a tough crowd but I figured Spider-Man would put me over the top.
Alas, my mother had other ideas. My mother, font of wisdom and help that she was, decided I HAD to go to my Halloween party as … wait for it … Raggedy Andy. Why go as a notoriously cool super hero when I could instead go as a lame little girls' circus clown? Not only did the guy with the light-up costume win best costume, I looked like a complete dork the entire night. I even bobbed for apples hoping to wipe the lame Raggedy Andy makeup off my face.
It didn’t work."

It's a wonder I didn't start drinking then.

you mean you don't bob for apples in vodka in Ohio?
yet another reason why growing up in Canada was so fantastic!
We always had a neighborhood Halloween costume parade when I was a kid. My friend Larry's mother once dressed him up as Marilyn Monroe singing Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend. He had his mothers bling covering every inch of him. Larry Guida, if you are out there, I'm sorry for snubbing you that day. Updated On: 10/20/04 at 12:08 PM

dude... that sucks.
There was one Halloween where my grade was on a canoe field trip.
There was a storm.
The lazy river section became vicious rapids.
It continued to pour all night and the next day, cancelling Halloween
This isn't a costume story but I'll share it anyway.
When I was in second grade, we were going to be having a Halloween parade later in the day on Halloween. I hadn't been feeling well and ate one bite of my sandwich, but I was still able to walk around fine and everything. When I got home, my mom for some reason looked at my back, and something made her call the doctor - turns out I had the chicken pox, so I missed going trick or treating that year.
SoMMS...that is hilarious and quite sad.
Why would a mother do such a thing?

You missed Trick-or-treating because of day-one chicken pox?
That's a tad rediculous. I mean hell, you already had them.

Picturing a 6'-5 Raggedy Andy now... BWAHAHAHAHA
Well, I had a fever also, so I doubt going out in freezing weather wouldn't have been healthy. Not ridiculous.
