This housing crisis didn't come out of nowhere. It was not a vague emanation of the evil Bush administration.
It was a direct result of the political decision, back in the late 1990s, to loosen the rules of lending so that home loans would be more accessible to poor people. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were authorized to approve risky loans.

Posted: 10/21/08 at 9:28amYou should forward that article to McCain. Maybe if he was talking about things like this, instead of his current smear campaign, he would be doing better in the polls. Or maybe he just isn't aware of it. Did he say that he didn't really understand the economy?

Posted: 10/21/08 at 9:38amErikJ, you've missed the point. The point of the article is that today's journalists are only reporting what fits their agenda. If there were true journalists out there, they would be scrutinizing Obama as heavily as they have Joe the Plumber.

Posted: 10/21/08 at 10:00amBlah, blah blah. Poor McSame. Now it's the media's fault he's losing. And the press hasn't scrutinized Obama. Were you not around for the primary? Of course the press looks for a narrative. They always have. But narratives don't come from nowhere. McSame and Palin are getting negative press now because they're earning it. But, as the article illustrates, the GOP isn't so much concerned with facts as it is in tricking the American public into letting it hold onto power.
