I often thought they were the same person, but this dispels the myth, because they are in the same room on the same show at the same time.

But their expressions and vocal inflections are so similar it's startling.

They did start out on Broadway together as cast members in "New Faces of 1952." I think they borrowed each others acts for the remainder of their careers.

... and they were both on Bewitched!

As for the outtake, I've seen this many times before. Hilarious!

She did several Broadway shows. And of course she was the perfect complement to Kaye Ballard as the stepsisters in Cinderella on tv.

Alice Ghostley also had a Tony Award for Featured Actress in a Play in 1964-65. She won for Lorraine Hansberry's "The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window".

Can you explain this? When did Alice believe Lynde did this and what was actually done?

It was at a Chatterbox interview and Ruth Williamson was talking about Ghostly and Seth made the comment about how Lynde and she were so similar. Ruth did a double take and said well don't ever say that to her! and went on about how Ghostly had said she had not realized how he'd been watching her delivery and how a lot of his success had been due to that "style" she felt he had appropriated. and that Ghostly resented it and let people know that she considered him...guilty of a felony. That's all.

Interesting. I never really saw them as the same character type. I can see how their delivery might be considered the same, but Alice always seemed to be playing the wallflower, never get a date, timid person. Paul always seemed to be playing the in-your-face, sarcastic, put-upon curmudgeon.
