Yay! New Scissor Sisters out today!

Just in time for the end of Pride weekend (well, there's also next week when Kelis and Kylie release their new albums).

I'm loving the album so far.

I'm still eagerly awaiting to see if the "Tales of the City" musical works out. I love that book, and adding new songs from Jake Shears and Babydaddy in theory would be PERFECTION!

I need to listen to it again. This one is not grabbing me as much as Ta-Dah, which I thought was one of the best albums of its year.

I listened to a demo of Tales of the City and...it needs work. Especially in diversity. The style is very repetitious. Som good stuff in there, but from what I've heard, only about a third was really useable.

This one grabbed me more than Ta-Dah (though, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from that one with their weird "botched-up" last single release for "Lights"). It had me since first listen, while it took me a few listens to truly get Ta-Dah, and there are still a couple of songs on there that I'm not super into.

I heard a few of the demo songs from TotC, but it's been a while. The storyline in the book sprawls a lit, so I wonder how it will work on stage (then again, Les Miz sprawls even more, so what do I know).

I'm loving it! It's like the Talking Heads and Goldfrapp had a gay baby.

Yay! New Scissor Sisters out today!

I found a promo CD from a 2004 album of theirs in my desk the other day.

Some great moments and good songs, but they're showing strain here, I felt. I understand that they are pastiche artists, but I was hoping for a little more heart.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

To me the whole thing sounds like a last hurrah from a band that had so many perfect elements all lined up they, and we, thought they should be HUGE all around the world, including their home country. The last time I saw them live, Ana made a crack that the reason they aren't big in America is because "we don't do ringtones." Um, I guess. That and because the mainstream prefers its gay culture presented by women.

My prediction: Jake goes solo after the Tales of the City musical is done. Babydaddy becomes a producer. Ana and the rest retire from the industry.
