Posted: 12/10/06 at 7:02pmWhy is it that i someone wanted to start a thread on this board bout spring aweakining they can do so without getticng a ttacked and insulted. but, if you wanted to start a thread bout wicked you do get insulted? i don't understand the logic behind this at all. I haven't seen SA yet but I want to. I think though that it may be over hyped but it dose have good music which should be on the raido but won't. Anywasy my original qustion. Why can't you talk about wicked without getting bashed but SA is ok?

Because Wicked opened three years ago and is still getting excessive posts. Spring Awakening, however, opened today and has nowhere near the volume of posts Wicked does. If, in 3 years, Spring Awakening is getting as many posts as it is today, people will be complaining. And there is always an influx when a show first opens. And if we couldn't start threads about any show just because people don't want to start them about Wicked, what would we talk about?
EDIT: Oh, and it's spelled Awakening not Aweaking. I think that would be a totally different show.

Plus, most people on this board like to talk about SPRING AWAKENING more than WICKED
but there are plenty of WICKED message boards on the internet to express your love for the show!
Just google :)

Because... WICKED fans, like ALW fans, are not really interested in theatre as an art form, they just like their specific shows.
Anyone who cares about the development of the musical as a leading American art form will care about SPRING AWAKENING. And Sondhim. And shows like RENT, RAGTIME, CHICAGO etc.
Wicked Fan: "I've seen WICKED 116 times!"
Bway fan: "Why?"
Wicked Fan: "Because it's the best show on Broadway!"
Bway Fan: "Well, what other Broadway shows have you seen?"
Wicked Fan: "Oh I only go and see Wicked. It's awesome."
Bway Fan: "Well how do you know it's te best if you haven't seen anything else?"
Wicked Fan: "Because its the only show I want to see."
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

frontrowcentre is right--as a fan of ALW's work, I can totally attest to my dislike for Sondhim. That amazing Sondheim guy is another story, though.

I agree with a lot of the posts on here so far. I would also add that mostly anything to discuss about Wicked (best Elphaba/Glinda, songs, themes, costumes, lines, etc.) had been done 100 times already, so no use to dredge it back up. From when Wicked was mainstream and very popular, posters seemed to be very catty and rude. Therefore, other posters don't want to deal with that again. If there was a new innovative topic to discuss in regards to Wicked, it might not be so frowned upon. But so far, in the 2 - 3 months I've been around, I've haven't seen any. Although, when new info (new casting, etc.) gets announced, it gets discussed, and no one has that big of a deal with it, as long as 18 of the threads don't pop up at the same time. Just my observation.
However, there are many different Spring Awakening threads at the moment, but I'm sure in the next few days it will thin out to 1 or 2.

Because Wicked is not a good show.
Shall I pull up some reviews? We can compare them to the Spring Awakening reviews.

Posted: 12/10/06 at 8:22pmFrontrowcentre, I'm irritated by ignorant Wicked fans who only like Wicked as much as the next person, but I DO think you made an unfair generalization. You make it seem as though it's impossible to like Wicked AND enjoy the art, which I think is (if rare) certainly possible. And sure, ALW and Wicked get made fun of plenty, but I think there are certainly a significant number of well-versed theater fans who like them.

Front Row Center That post is ridiculous. You are certainly welcome to make sweeping generalizations about who like what show and why but to say that people who like Wicked and Andrew Lloyd Webber aren't interested in theatre....well I'm shocked into silence by the sheer stupidity of that post.

I take offense to this. I maybe a wicked fan but that does not mean that I don't appreciate theatre as an artform, or in any other way.
