Just had to share with my brethren. I was conversing with a soon-to-be-former friend of mine this weekend. We go way way back, and she's recently undergone a conversion to da Lord. Good for her, anything that floats her boat, you know?
Anyway, we were talking about the exclusion of "under God" from the Pledge. In the midst of our reasonable conversation, she comes out with this:
"They're just pushing and pushing us towards being a God-less society. You know, homosexuals and other sexual deviants were responsible for the fall of Rome."
Dead silence on my part. I mean, what do you say to a comment like THAT? Then it came to me:
"Well, you should be rejoicing...wasn't it the Romans that were feeding Christians to the lions? I saw QUO VADIS. So, it stands to reason that christianity should celebrate queers!"
Dead silence on her part.
But seriously, boys -- I mean, c'mon...sheesh....what DO you say when confronted with stupidity like that? Is it even worth an argument?

What is even more dissapointing -- this person used to be a friend.
Rome, fallen? Please tell your born-again friend: I've been to Rome (twice), and it's not only beautiful and thriving, it's just loaded with amici di Dorothy. La Dolce Vita -- like sin -- is in the eye of the beholder.

I find it not uncommon for the newly converted to have a somewhat haughty attitude toward those who don't share their now superior attitudes.

my father once told me liberalism was the fall of Rome. Apparently everyone over there got so caught up with sex that they didnt bother guarding their borders. Who knew? heh.
And all white Americans are still responsible for slavery, all Christian Germans are still responsible for the holocaust, and all Middle Easterners are responsible for Sep 11. Rome wasn't inhabited entirely by homosexuals and there was a lot more involved than just sex that caused the fall of Rome. Tell your friend to take a class in European history.
hah, i see how carefully you're hiding your power. skillfully parrying the argument and never allowing the true power of the gay cabal to be known. i for one wish that you'd just come out and admit that the roman empire pissed you off with its rules and so you squashed it like a bug. you sent in the minsing sissy brigade and bada bing bada boom, no more rome. be afraid america, be very afraid, hell hath no fury like a bitter queen denied a marriage license.
i'll apologize in advance for offending just about everyone with a pulse with that post.
nah--I loved it. We can be some very powerful MFs.
papa - What was really great about your post was the correct usage of you're, your, and its. For this place, it is quite commendable.
Generally I just don't stoop to the level of such stupid ravings - I won't reply - I'll just walk away.
why thank you for noticing, mr. matt. i don't think i'll ever have a problem with those as that's the lesson i was teaching my 7th graders when we got the news of the towers coming down.
oh my, that's depressing. and so is your...friend? was it?
as far as i know, rome didn't like homosexuality anymore than it like Gaulic and Germanic tribes. but history aside, your friend is a C**T (i don't use that word lightly) who needs to get her born-again ass in line. i like to use the line "Mmm...that's interesting! why are you afraid of me again? oh ya, cause your a fat cow who, possesing a bovine intelligence, is easily lead by the herd. tell farmer Jesse Jackson i said hi, will ya?"
but that's just my response.
For a horrible second there I got confused and thought that ICB was talking about papa and maligning Vish. Whew.
nah, no one better malign those udders
I was gonna defend her, but alas, there was no need.

I'm being maligned? Where?
What is meant by the "fall of Rome?" The fall of its imperial, unjust, mysognistic, hypocritical, tyrannical, corrupt leaders who had no greater ambition than to commit the subjects in their "holy empire" to slavery?
If we're responsible for that, honey, good on us!
and good on your pic hon. hott!!! now that's what the fall of rome is all about!
