I want to audition for Sally or Lucy, but I think I probably fit the role of Sally more in YAGMCB. Any suggestions for songs? I can sing soprano/mezzo soprano. Thanks!

I got Lucy's understudy/chorus in our schools production last year, but everyone sang the same song @ auditions. Hm. Something superbelty like from Once on this Island, or even (god help us) "Popular" from Wicked would be good.

I know this groc'ry clerk...

i think you're probably not going to want to sing "popular" at any auditions for at least the next ten years. i have no doubt that all directors/casting directors are already very sick of the song.

whatever you pick though, definitely up-tempo

If I were a bell (Guys and Dolls)
It's high, uptempo, and cute
or even maybe
I Enjoy Being a Girl (Flower Drumn Song)

Your material should fall under the "character belt" category. A la "Somewhere That's Green" from Little Shop or something like that. DO NOT do the Kristin Chenoweth voice. Imitations are a no no.

I obviously want to make the part my own, but since I am portraying a kid, I need to make my voice sound younger, right? Not Kristin Chenoweth style, but my own. Also thanks for all your song suggestions!

I've been in YAGMCB 4 times Sally and Lucy 2 times each. I sang "Freddy My Love" from Grease, "Suddenly Seymour" I picked 16 bars of that. And the other 2 I had to sing from the show.

Why are there two threads?

I know it's the student board, but really...
