Yves Saint Laurent: A Giant of French Fashion
PARIS (AFP) — Yves Saint Laurent, who died Sunday aged 71, was one of a handful of designers who dominated 20th century fashion, on a par with Christian Dior, Coco Chanel and Paul Poiret.
The reclusive French maestro, who had retired from haute couture in 2002 after four decades at the top of his trade, had been ill for some time.
During his farewell appearance seven years ago, Saint Laurent had told reporters he had "always given the highest importance of all to respect for this craft, which is not exactly an art, but which needs an artist to exist."

I didn't realize he was still alive to begin with! RIP.
He was only 71.
On either board, a sad occasion. RIP
I think because his career shot to stardom so long ago, many of us (myself included) thought he was much older.
I was shocked to find out today that he was 71! That's too young. But he was a genius in his field.
And I love listening to everyone trying to pronounce his name. That's an interesting journey in itself.
I wonder if now someone will come forward and tell Yall About Yves.

All About Yves
Sad news. Saint Laurent was truly a maestro, and the greatest couturier of the latter half of the 20th century.
I was actually thinking about him today because I was considering going to Montreal this summer, as the Montreal Musuem of Fine Arts has just opened an exhibition of his work (which will travel to San Francisco in the fall). With his death, I'm sure many will now want to see this retrospective and get a last glimpse of his work.

It's sad that he has died, he was too young.
