so, it seems like everyone i know has been diagnosed with reflux, and as we know it can be disasterous for vocalists. however, after three years of spending waaaaaay too much money on a prescription for aciphex to keep it somewhat under control, i found total relief and i'm so excited about it that i figured i would share!

the miracle i found is apple cider vinegar (in pill form or straight if you can get past the taste). i read a ton about it being really helpful with reflux and a laundry list of other ailments, and sure enough, after two weeks, i feel AMAZING, and my reflux is completely under control! i can even drink coffee and orange juice again! plus, 185 capsules was $12, a far cry from the $160 per month i was spending on a prescription that didn't work as well, PLUS you're getting additional natural health benefits as opposed to popping a synthetic pill.

i know i sound like a crazy infomercial, but i really suggest giving it a try if you battle reflux on a regular basis. it made a HUGE difference! :)

$160 per month?? I pay $40 for 3 months of Zegerid, and it works better than anything else I've tried (Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix...)

Another remedy that has worked for me is to eat two or three spoonfuls of raw oatmeal. You have to hold the oatmeal in your mouth for a few seconds to make it easy to swallow but it works.

I've known about the benefits of apple cider vinegar for several years. I take some when I'm going somewhere where I'm not sure how well the food is prepared. It acts as a shield on my stomach.

If you are interested in further benefits of apple cider vinegar, read "Folk Medicine" by D.C. Jarvis.

I've gone to so many doctors for acid reflux that was triggered by other gastro problems and never heard this.

Thanks! I'll definitely be trying it. I haven't drank orange juice in forever, and I miss it.

Sadly, this thread reminds me of the time Tim Howar went on about his acid reflux problems to me and a couple others after a show. He sounded so enthusiastic.

Prilosec is great! The one thing is, they say to take it in 2-week doses, and the moment you are done with that, the reflux comes back...

I've recently cleared up three miserable years of acid relux. I no longer take prescription drugs like Ranitidine or Omeprazole.

Here is a link to the site that put an end to all misery.

http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/acid_reflux.html

Read all the case studies, many hold interesting insights.

The cider vinegar and honey was a big help, and I still take this twice a day. Granny Smith apples were the breakthrough though. I know it's hard to believe that an acidic apple like a Granny Smith has the potential to clear up reflux/digestive problems, but it really works. Apparently there's an enzyme in this particular apple that does the trick.

In the last couple of months, I've added two chewable Acidophilus with Bifudus tablets daily (health shop) to the regime and I never even get heartburn.

I can't emphasise enough, the benefit of the Granny Smith apple. It sounds to simple to be true, but just try it, it's incredible. I divide an apple into four pieces, and take it through the day like medication. If I go away from home for the day, I peel and slice the apple and put it into a small container, yes, it discolours, but it still does the trick.

Coca Cola is a no no. It was my drug of choice for a lifetime, and I believe contributed to the problem...

An apple (Granny Smith) a day keeps the doctor away...

I've never heard of this as a remedy before either. I'm on two 40 mg Nexium capsules per day, and reflux is still a problem for me. I'm going out to get some of this stuff today. Thanks for the heads up.

my doc says it's fine to take daily, and I do....and I think I've had it come back twice in 8 months.....in fact you can take it inbetween if that happens
