I know there are plenty of working actors who post on this board, but what about the ones who have crappy day jobs to support them until the big break? Are all starving actors waiters? I know I am, but what other jobs do actors have to deal with in order to pursue the big dream?

Ushering and Promotional Work are two of the hot jobs rights now.
Temping is great--when it exists (damn economy!)
In addition, I currently have a part-time holiday job at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square. (sucks)
Coordinating due diligence for national multi-family real estate dispositions. It's not quite as bad as it sounds.
wow, matt that sounds important. and i just tell people where the buffet is.
It's kind of weird. I was promoted from the mailroom where I started temping when I moved to Chicago. Now I'm making a decent living wage with excellent benefits and living in a high-rise downtown. But it's just until I can recoup my savings from the move. Hint: Never move after a national disaster and a Wall Street fiasco. At least, not unless you have a job waiting for you....
Where in Chicago, Mister Matt?
I work at Sunrise Recreation Center in the summer... Playing Freeze Dance with a bunch of 6-13 year olds is obviously my choice of a good time. Goodness.
Youd think with Actor/Director/Playwright/Producer/Artistic Director credits under my belt I'd be able to get something in the civilian world more compatible with my areas of expertice, yet I work as a Convention Host at the Javits Center. What's good about the gig is the drive by intimacy aspect of customer contact and the fact that you are in position to turn tourists around as far as their "ugly New Yoker" theory is concerned. Being an ambassador for the town I adore is gratifying. The down side is, the pay is laughable, the agency exploits the hell out of actors and yet there are three hundred of them waiting in the wings to replace me. I have this fantasy where I out the SOB (the boss we lovingly refer to as Fagan) on the podium while graciously accepting my Tony award.
I have no day job. I think I'm a little too lazy for that...
I live just north of the Loop next to Navy Pier.
