If you could add one amendment to the US constitution, what would it be?
May not be the most popular, but:
No athlete or actor or any other person whose sole function in society is to entertain should ever make more money than a teacher at the top of the pay scale in an average district in the country.

Since there are nearly no reply's, what about if you could change or delete an amendment?
I would change the "everybody has the right to bear arms" to "only police has the right to bear arms."
I'm not pro-gun really, but making guns illegal is a worse idea than prohibition.

communism at its finest.
Elphaba - not communism (and I knew someone would say that) - but that jobs should be rewarded based on their actual value to society. If anyone were to list the top ten "most important" jobs in society, there's little to no doubt that teacher would be on every one of those lists. Entertainers/athletes would not be, or at the least be very low. I'm all for people earning what they're worth - teachers do not make what they're worth. Period. There's nothing communist about that.

I agree.
I'd much rather my teachers, doctors, servicemen and police/emt/firemen get paid more than singers/actors/athletes.

'making guns illegal is a worse idea than prohibition'
How? If they were illegal people would just do it all quietly, sure, but they do that now anyway? I'd vote for Matt's ammendment. If I was old enough. And if I was actually American. Ok maybe I wouldn't be able to but it's a good idea.

I'd include an amendment that blind faith and willful ignorance were punishable by death.

To quote Titanic, 'Not the better half'. Only messing.

"Goodbye half the population."
You say that like it's a bad thing.
oh my god! I was so gonna quote that, but I didn't want to seem like a huge dork.

A U.S. Senator can only serve 2 six year terms.
Politics should not be a life long career.

Oh, I'd also limit the time Justices can sit on the supreme court (reihnquist should have been gone before he got senile)

Thanks for the dork comment, I walked right into it.
But yes, it's stupid that if one party is in government, even just for one term, that they can appoint justices that will be there for decades.
Making guns illegal would add the element of an underground movement to get them -- having them legal at least allows the government to keep some sort of tabs on them - and I do believe that that's necessary - even if I'm usually anti-government interefernce in life.
I feel the same way about drugs, well, atleast weed.
The reality is that people go see movies way more than they donate money to schools and different institutions. The only reason entertainers get more money is because WE pay them everytime we go to the movies or buy a DVD, etc.
If we pay higher taxes, then teachers will get more money, right?
Right - and, well, if the government stopped wasting so much money...
Of course in reality my post is facetious - our money goes to pay those people and they certainly deserve their slice - but that doesn't change how so many of the most important people in our society are underpayed!
