I've been hanging in there despite having to work at staying interested enough. Joss Whedon said it would take about six episodes to "set things up". I trust him enough to wait for the pay-off.
That being said, I've only watched two episodes so far, and can't tell you who Alpha is...

I think Alpha was probably the naked guy we saw at the end of the first episode (who sent the FBI agent Echo's picture).

You know what I wonder about this show? How do they keep them from becoming an absolutely fruitful garden of STDs....

I wonder if that's part of the screening process?

I gave it 4 episodes and I'm done.
I really wanted to like it because I was a huge Buffy fan but it just didn't hold my interest.

tonight's episode - wow! mellie is a "sleep active".
i think there was something to the title of tonight's episode "man on the street" and the faux-footage -- could it be that alpha was in one of the interviews?

You should maybe give it another shot.
"AVC: It isn’t like Joss is some new kid on the block, though. He has a lot of shows under his belt, and he’s got this large cult following. Is it frustrating when you get that kind of feedback?
ED: Honestly, yes. I understand it from a business perspective, and from Fox’s view, but at the same time, we’ve now done 13 episodes, and people have said that the show took off once they finally realized that Joss is best off left alone to do his thing. That happens around episode six—six through 13 are just extraordinary. I love one, two, three, four, and five, but Joss’ first script that he did after the pilot is number six, which is called “Man On The Street,” and it is just unbelievable. From that point on, the world unfolds in Joss’ way, with Joss’ speed, and it’s really remarkable."

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Yeah, that felt like a Joss episode. He has a great ability to make me laugh hysterically and blow my mind within an hour.

So if we're assuming that Alpha sent Ballard the tapes in the beginning of the series, then who is this new person who's altering Echo's programming?

i'm guessing it's either echo's handler or amy acker as the doctor.

I doubt Boyd has the expertise needed to pull of something like that. MAYBE Dr. Saunders, as you suggested. But I imagine you'd need a background in neuroscience.

What about the woman who's helping Topher? She certainly seems intelligent enough, and would have that background in neuroscience.

Its obviously Ivy, Topher's maligned asian assistant. Echo made mention of the fact that the person was able to corrupt the imprint while topher was distracted. and while topher was creating hte imprint he was asked to leave the room by boyd after topher had asked Ivy to go get him food.

As SOON as Topher left the room I was like "oh snap, someone's going to do something to the imprint!" lol I am HOOKED on this show, I can't wait to find out what Alpha's deal is, why Echo decided to become a doll, who the person on the inside of the dollhouse is, if Ballard will be pissed if/when he finds out that Mellie is a doll......ahh!

Maybe if the show is a success, people won't look at me like an alien whenever I tell them my name.

VERY exciting episode, though also a bit disappointing. But only because you THINK that they're really going to get out, but of course they couldn't have that happen this early in the show!
And Angel Desai! Had no idea she was going to be on!

Yeah, It was nice seeing Angel, hope we get to see her again in the future (knowing joss's propensity for loyalty to actors I won't be shocked if she shows up again).
Really a pretty good episode. I was kinda disappointed as it was happening (the previews made it seem like it was going to be a mind****, but really only felt like a mind fingerbang) but the concluding scenes really made it worth it.
