Alright, so as some of you know (as I'd asked around here for looots of advice and info), I was planning a cabaret for this August that, due to lack of an ASCAP license among other things, had to be cancelled.
I am looking for something else to do in that time slot to raise some money for a local, wonderful, non-profit theatre, while I work on either acquiring an ASCAP license (anyone know a ballfield on prices for this?) to do the planned cabaret next year, or spend the year writing to various composers/lyricists for permission for specific songs. Good times.
Just wondered, although I doubt it, if there are any LEGAL cabaret type things we can perform instead? anyone know, of anything you're allowed to do with an ascap or bmi license?
thanks in advance!

For a community theatre in Ohio. I helped put together a cabaret fundraiser a couple summers ago, and was told at that point that they had an ascap license (they paid a blanket fee is what I was told) so we had the rights to perform the songs. However, when trying to plan something myself, I just heard from the artistic director that they have no license - they get the rights for the shows in their season but that's it.
any idea how much a license costs for cabarets? (to perform 4 songs max from any show)
