Posted: 1/1/08 at 4:41pmThe original version was wonderful but it has been made "politically correct" and the story line ruined(and this is a direct quote from a friend who is African American and a choreographer!). Still, many schools or camps perform it because there are MANY roles and it ends up looking more like a review than a show since it's reconstruction- and if you never saw the original, perhaps it won't bother you as much. Do a google search on the show and also look around on Amazon (you should find some recordings with snippets you can listen to)- there is a lot of stuff out there to read about.
