Oh, it is hard to find an open radio startion to use the FM transmitter on, and then when you find one there is static, and you have to keep on changing it because the stations keep getting new signals.
I got iTrip for mine, and it works pretty well. Except the iPod can't move and has to be pointed toward the aentenna (sp?).

iTrip is fine as long as you are not in a moving car.

Yeah, I've found the casette tape works the best, if you have a tape deck. No signals to worry about. Although there is quality lost in the transmission.
I don't know the brand I have. (I will look when I go out later.) It's white and plugs directly into my lighter. It has a full cradle for the ipod with a digital read of the radio station. The iPod drops into the cradle and it charges while it plays. I have never had a moment of trouble out of it.
My family, each member having an iPod, has tried many of the different ones that are available. In my opinion, the winner is something called podfreq. Don't know the manufacturer, but I think I bought it at a CompUSA in Ohio. It can be charged while using it, but doesn't require being plugged in for use. The best feature is that it can access any station very easily with one hand and without having to look at it, which is especially useful on a road trip where "empty" stations tend to change frequently. It only works with the video iPod, though. And it's pricey ($89, I think)...but worth it.
For an older iPod, iTrip is fine.
Oh, and the podfreq works nicely in the house or office, too...through any available radio.
i had an iTrip and it broke ands since it was made from Griffin and not apple, they couldn't fix it.
right now, I'm using a CD cassette adapter made in 1994 that i got for free from my grandmother. I mean, it's not on the radio but you can hear it in the car.
old technology. who knew?
