well....I am "reading" (listening to) my first book on cd-rom.
I bought Son of a Witch in print, and then realized I needed to read Wicked again. The paperback I have of Wicked has such small print, that I bought it on cd yesterday , and I am amazed how much I like it. I'm noticing things I never noticed in print......like how Elphaba, as a baby, bit off the fishwifes finger....how Nanny stole the bottle with the green elixir)......
I'm realizing that when I read I tend to go fast, and read ahead of myself, so I miss things. But when I listen, I pay much closer attention.
I will not make this a habit, as they charge ridiculous prices for books on cd, but.......I do like it.
Not sure I could commute to work and "read" as it would make me not pay attn to my driving.
Anyone else have opinions on this type of "reading?"
We had a pretty decent discussion of this in this thread
Several were the same as you, but many of us find the opposite to be the case.
The political importance of reading fiction
drat, should have searched.......
What would you have searched for to find that?
I think it is just an interesting topic and wanted you to see what we already said. Don't feel bad about that one.
On a road trip from SF to Vegas, a friend and I listened to a Lerner and Lowe biography on tape. I can't remember the title for the life of me, but whoever was reading it did a great job.
The book was centered around My Fair Lady, on stage and on screen. The anecdotes were hilarious! I found we both remembered much more of the book by listening to it this way.
One of the funniest anecdotes was a postcard Lerner or Lowe received from Moss Hart while he was on vacation with wife Kitty and the kids. "You know it's summer when you have sand up your ass" he wrote.
I keep meaning to try another book on CD, but, like you Elphaba, I am afraid of the distracted driving issue!
just, even last night, laying on the bed listening...my mind would wander about what color to paint the kitchen, lol
