Posted: 7/24/07 at 1:59pmOne of my cats started going more frequently and outside of the box, alot of times on my dirty clothes, and right in front of us...it turns out she had kidney stones. They are like shards of glass in their bladder and very painful...she needed an operation to remove them, and has been on special food since, as they will come back...thankfully she is doing fine.

It was better than when the plumber entombed her in the floor of our 3rd floor bathroom, in 100 degree heat!
The girl's been through alot!

my old cat did this when he had something wrong with his bladder. once we started to feed him special diet food he stopped doing it. and he could only have wet food after it happened.
my dog has accidents in the house in the morning before she goes outside but she's happy and healthy... she's just old.
i hope your kitty is ok.

Gymdude, what happened at the vet?
They basically just took blood and urine samples and said that I should get the results tomorrow. The vet said that my cat generally looked good, and that the problem could be just behavioral, or it could be a kidney problem or something, which the tests will indicate.
She hasn't done it in the last couple of days....

gym - I hope your cat is OK. Hopefully it's just a behavior/territorial thing. Keep us posted.
On a lighter note...
My mom's cat has one of those covered litterboxes. When his box gets dirty beyond his liking, he lets her know by leaving a poopie ON TOP of the box.

Posted: 7/26/07 at 3:35pmI spoke too soon. Last night she peed somewhere a little unusual (long story), and actual pooped big time in the middle of my bedroom floor! Not on anything, just right out in the open...if it is poop too I guess it is behavioral...I'll reexamine the litter bix to make sure there is not something she dislikes about it...but she does go outside too...weird...I'll see what the vet's tests show...

Posted: 7/26/07 at 4:10pmDid you recently change brands of kitty litter? Ironically enough there was an article about this on MSN earlier this week. Cats are very particular about their litter box and the litter they use. If a change is made either regarding fragrance, texture, etc., they'll definitely let you know by their actions.

Posted: 7/26/07 at 5:25pmHm....I don't think I used different kitty litter...but the more I think of it, maybe I did...hm...that is an interesting theory....I'll look into it...

well, if she's pooping and peeing, that's probably a good thing in that it's behavioral
peach, we've have a covered one too....and when he gets frisky in the box, and starts slapping the little around we now and then have what I call a "poop fest" where he's thrown poop out on the floor, the walls, etc.......it ain't pretty, so I literally am right there when he finishes to get stuff out

Elph - mine is covered too. I have two cats, and one of them hates having any litter on her paws, plus she's "rotund" so she throws litter around too and stuff goes a-flyin'. I found a poopie in the laundry basket once! ewww!
gym - sounds like your kitty might be miffed about something! I hope she is OK, whatever it is. Although, the fact that she pooped leads me to think it's behavioral. Do you have a new boyfriend or girlfriend who's smell is maybe on your clothes?

Posted: 7/30/07 at 12:24pmI got the test results. Generally OK. Some minor renal dysfunction, but probbaly not enough to cause this. The vet agreed that it sounds behavioral. She made a good point: Maybe I just need a second litter box upstairs. My house is 3 levels, with the litter box way down in the corner of the basement...maybe in her old age, she just doesn't want to climb down all those stairs when she has to go. I'll put a secnd box upstairs. Also, the vet is going to give me some special food to try as well.

Posted: 7/30/07 at 12:30pmI can't say I blame her! That sounds pretty logical, though. I hope that is all it is.

Wow, I'd probably pee on the nearest floor too if I had to walk down thee stories to a corner in the basement....
Let's hope the second box fixes it.
Sidenote, my cat keeps jumping on top of the toilet bowl and stands (it's usually open)
It's almost like he's trying to figure out what it's for.
