Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good community theater company I could audition for. I live in brooklyn so if anyone knows about anything in brooklyn or in manhattan I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
My favorite community theatre in Brooklyn is The Heights Players. They're in Brooklyn Heights, 7ish blocks toward the river from Borough Hall. They produce a different show every month, plays and musicals. They just finished their season, but will start up again in September. Chances are there'll be something in the season you're right for.
They definitely have the usual egos and politics of any community theatre, but they're all very nice and the work is generally pretty good. The production values and performance space are nice as well, and the shows (especially the musicals) are pretty well attended. Check out their website at HeightsPlayers.org.
As for other things in Brooklyn, the Gallery Players is pretty professional and the Narrows Players or whatever they're called are never very good.
And Backstage is full of Manhattan community theatres. Just keep an eye out.
st jeans players on E 75th street in Manhattan. They are considered off off bway, get reviewed by 3 places and do 3 -4 shows a year. I did Gypsy there and it was pretty fun. Also St Bart Players are quite good but I think you might have to pay membership fees for them.
