Sadly, where there is a lot of money, there is usually corruption.
This story is certainly dissapointing, but not surprising.
Well, that makes the half a trillion lost in Iraq okay.

Horrible. On this we're in agreement. I hope the UN cleans house and finds the culprits.
But.. In Iraq, we have $8.8 Billion lost to ghost payrollers and fake front vendors. We have no accounting of nearly $12B in cash that was supposedly handed out to Iraqis. We have no idea of how much money was lost, wasted or stolen as there has never been a thorough investigation. The current estimate seems absurdly low at a staggering $22B missing as those two mention could account for that amount without any further losses.
And I'm not taking you to task, Papa, but someone somewhere has to be responsible. And I'm afraid this administration will never ever even admit to, much less try to prosecute, this boondoggle.
yeah, that's the argument i was making wasn't it? was i even making an argument? nope, just pointing things out. but feel free to make this thread about iraq instead of acknowledging the story.
And don't forget all the money spent on no bid contracts (Bush's and Darth Cheney's Cronies)including mercernaries (Blackwater, a large republican contributor). You don't have to look further than the White House to find major corruption.
my ode to pj then is, "well, that makes the half a billion lost by the un okay."

Even when we agree we argue!!
And here I thought I was being conciliatory by not pointing out the Iraq situation is only 44 times worse!

I agree with conservatives that the UN is corrupt and completely inefective. They put the Sudan on a human rights council for christ's sake
Unfortunatly nobody usually takes responsibility, whether its the money missing in helping rebuild New Orleans to all the money lost in Iraq. Maybe I'm being cynical , but I don't expect the UN to do any better.
