TCM had this great Hitchcock film on last weekend as part of 31 Days of Oscar - and it got me thinking about re-making it....
a modern remake focusing on Middle Eastern issues rather than the post WW2 milleu. George Clooney as Cary Grant's Mr. Devlin & Catherine Zeta-Jones as Ingrid Bergman's Alicia?
yes, no, maybe?
NO
No. Not ever.
Especially not with CZJ.
For a second there I thought you were talking about that Tori Spelling show on VH1.

God forbid they ever remake NOTORIOUS, one of the most perfect films ever made. In the current climate, it'd star Scarlet Johansen, Keanu Reeves and Mos Def, and be directed by Rob Marshall.
They did use some elements of the story in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2.
Um....why?
Before everyone jumps on you, dfw, keep in mind that the uranium in the movie was what Hitch called the "MacGuffin"--which is whatever the people in the movie are after but the audience doesn't care about. The $40,000 in PSYCHO, the microfilm in NORTH BY NORTHWEST, the 39 Steps in THE 39 STEPS--these are merely devices he used to explore deeper themes.
To me, NOTORIOUS is about a woman's shame about her sexual desires and a man's exploitation of those desires. You have the emasculated Claude Rains as one of Hitch's momma's boys, providing Alicia with stability and respectability contrasted with Grant's devilish (get it?) stud, offering sexual gratification, but at a price.
