Why is it that the vast majority of DVDs sold on eBay now are sent in paper sleeves rather than in the cases w/ the artwork?!?!? Am I the only one that wants my DVD in tact? Unless I'm spending $3 total (including s/h) for it, I want the whole damn thing!
I was just looking at a DVD of Napoleon Dynamite and here's the shipping info:

"Saves on shipping costs," my ass!! Excuse me?!?!? $6 is saving on shipping costs, how?!??!?! It costs $0.80, tops to send a CD/DVD in a paper sleeve. I don't know why, but this really irks me. It shouldn't even cost a fraction of that $6 to ship it w/ the case/artwork.
I know I really have no right to complain, because if I wanted a new DVD w/ the artwork, I should just drop the cash and buy it new, but come on!!! I guess I'll stick to buying used DVDs at the local rental joint. Movie Gallery all the way (especially when they have Buy 2, Get 2 sales!!)
shipping is so F*CKing expensive on eBay... its clazy

Yeah, this one thing happened with an Ebay DVD that I bought..well let's say I won't be buying DVDs from there anymore.
Ebay irks me as well. Stupid stupid site-that-I-obsess-over-but-has-taken-my-money-right-out-of-my-purse.
hmmph
i dont buy dvds/cds from eBay... i useAmazon.com used marketplace... its so much better!
I know! It's ridiculous how much people charge for shipping. I get unreasonably giddy when I find someone that doesn't rip you off on shipping. A couple of weeks ago I bought a couple of CDs from the same guy who only asked $1 shipping each, and I got them in less than a week. A+++ to you, my friend!

well the S&H is up to the seller so don't blame ebay for that...but in my experience, most of the people that claim they are selling new dvd's in paper sleeves are really newly burned dvd's not factory new..just letting u know so u don't get screwed like I did
yes "factory sealed" my ass! amazon.com ALL DA WAY!
Amen husband Amen
I totally understand that it's up to the seller to charge what they want, but it seems to be an all-purvasive trend (an "eBay-ism," if you will)...I wouldn't buy one shipped in paper sleeves, just because it pisses me off so much, but if I got one and it looked like a burned DVD on top of that, I'd be ripSH*T! What a pisser, bustinloose! I'd be livid!
eBay is filled with losers who will rip you off on a moments notice.
Check out the sellers who start the listing price at 99 cents only to see that they are charging a flat shipping fee of hundreds of dollars (mainly furniture)

Well I don't want to accuse anyone but I think Bustinloose might be on the right track, especially since I can tell you the wholesale cost (The price charged by the manufacturer when they sell it to a retailer like Amazon, Best Buy or Tower) is $18.55. That means, if this is legitimate, the seller would lose over $12 on each copy he sold. Odd, no?
The thing is, I don't have a problem with getting stuff used. Like, I have no issue buying stuff from rental places used (and if that's what the deal was w/ the cheaper DVDs on eBay, that'd be totally cool w/ me). Just don't try to pass stuff off as something that it isn't. Don't tell me something is new, when it's really a "newly burned" DVD. And don't tell me you're saving me on shipping by sending it in a piece of paper, while charging me $6.
shipping is whatever the person selling makes it....don't blame EBAY. If you don't like the shipping cost...DON'T BUY.
I am an EBAY seller....and when you add the cost of the peanuts, and the envelopes, and anything else that's needed, it is perfectly acceptable to pass that cost on to the customer.
I bought a DVD on eBay. The cost was 1 cent, but the shipping was $4.99. I still bought it, because $5 total is still cheaper than anywhere else, but it does bother me that some of these people take advantage of setting their own shipping costs to rip you off. I especially get suspicious with those where they don't even post the shipping, you have to calculate it separately at like the bottom of the page.
anyone who does not post shipping, I would not buy from.
If they don't have a link to USPS where you can put in your zip, or a price.....don't buy
I hear ya, Elphaba, but if you're a person who sells DVDs on line regularly, you buy padded envelopes/paper sleeves in bulk (which I'd imagine the vast majority of the people I'm talking about do, considering they'll have anywhere from 50 into the 100s of items up for bid). Anyway, that w/ the shippings costs is like $1.50 tops. Still no where near $6, and I think that's wrong. That's all I'm saying...and I don't buy them. I just get pissed when item after item I look at (that appears to be a decent price on the main page) ends up being a total ripoff.
yeah....I charge $2.50 for cd's or dvds when I sdell them, but I only sell them now and then.....
but you are right, some really get you for shipping
Well, I'd buy from you, Elphaba! It's pretty much anything that's over $3 that starts to bother me. Here's the nail-biter though...do you send the case/artwork??
yeah, when I have it.....but usually I find a good deal on something and buy them up, like I had 5 copies of 'Zanna, Don't" I found locally new for $4.99......but I usually buy lots of things like Fiestaware, etc.....usually don't have DVD's or CD's...
I buy a lot of items on e-bay...but I never bid on anything unless I know what the shipping and handling costs will be.
*thumbs up* to you, Elphaba. $5 for Zanna, Don't, eh? I'd have to stock up too!
supposedly one of the gay hotels here ordered them, and then never picked them up.....so, I bought em, and did pretty good.
What I hate is people who bid on an item 6 days before it ends..and then the price is outrageous by the end of the auction.
Unless of course I'm the seller :)
well stephanie, that's usually the newbies.....
when I buy, I wait til the last 30 seconds and swoop in and always get what I want........at a good price, unless some damn newbie has done what you described.......
but, that's also how sellers make money, so i can't complain
