Posted: 9/29/08 at 8:21pmAnybody ever buy (discount) plastic eyeglass frames off the internet? Any sites you could recommend? Or any good discount places in Manhattan (NYC). Thanks.

My husband bought "vintage" frames, made in the 50s, online. It was from a place in Maine that specializes in authentic vintage eyeglass frames.
You know that expression "They don't make them the way they used to"? It sure is true about frames. The seller is very reliable and helpful.
But I have never bought any for myself without trying them on first. I mean, how could you? (Unless you try them on in a store first and then go online to find them cheaper. That could work!) Best of luck!

Is this to put real lenses in or just for show?
I bought frames and lenses from a discount website and it was the worst decision I ever made. The frames were fine, but the lenses were crap.
In the city, you can get really cute frames for less than $5 in Chinatown. I was searching for sunglasses a few weeks ago and was surprised by all the frames in the shop I was in.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 8:33pmthanks, Jersey, just whereabouts in chinatown? I'm looking for plastic frames, which are kinda hard to find these days. I have a very good optician to make the lenses, which are always super expensive due to my prescription. The optical places up here in midtown are are crazily overpriced. (for frames)

We took the A to Canal and came down like 2-3 blocks. I believe it was between Wooster and Greene, on the right side of the street. It was a shop that sold mostly glasses. The entire left side of the shop was glasses. All I can really tell you is that it is like two doors down from a bubble tea place with a yellow awning. Several of the open door shops had them. Just take your time and check out that area. I am sure you will find some. They had some really cute choices.
