I am rather old fashioned when it comes to names. I like them from the Torah. For girls: Miriam, Sarah, Naomi and Rebecca. For boys: Benjamin, Daniel, Jacob and Joseph.
"Friends are the people you chose as family."....Me.
Two years ago, I had a student named "Femalia". One day, I asked her mother how she came upon such an unusual name. She said that, at the hospital, the baby was unnamed for days and was referred to as "Female A". She liked it, and she kept it.
Gosh Dollypop...where the heck do you go to school. Don't knock the five-year plan...I may initiate the six-year plan at the rate I'm going. LOL
I love the name from the movie Rebecca, George Fortescu Maximillian de Winter, but I'd probably stick with Maximillian or "Max" or "Maxim" for short. Also, I wouldn't want the poor child to get beat up at school.
For girls: Isabella (even though I'm probably going to be using it as my stage name), Kennedy, Hunter (don't ask, I think that's so cool using guys names for girls), Lola, Sparrow, Camryn, Adison, Michaela, McCaire, MacClairen, and Keely.
My dad taught a Ronald McDonald a few years ago. And a kid named Xerox, too. I don't know the stories behind the names, but I remember a story about how poor, unfortunate, Ronald once wound up in trouble with the principal, who thought he was being a smartass when he told him his name. I know there are probably dangling modifiers in that last sentence, but I'm too tired to care.
I love how my name was referred to as "plain and boring". Lol. I know, though.
My favorite names are: Boys- Parker, Cory, Carson Girls- Riley, Shawn, Amber, Madeline (pronounced w/ short i), Brooklyn
I like more uncommon names because mine is so common.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I have a relative who is an obstetrician. Names from the delivery room:
- Femalé (that's what the baby was labeled on her ID tag and the woman thought it was pretty) - Placenta (a woman liked the name of the afterbirth) - Latrina (a woman gave birth in a ladies room)
My aunt is a teacher who had a child named Nosmoking. It was the first thing his non-English speaking parents saw when he was born. The say it naz-moe-king.
i love the names liam and aidan for boys. ahh, the name aidan just makes me happy. and is it weird that i like the name sebastienne?
there's a guy in my class named uriah....everybody calls him brave, though, i don't know why. but his brother's name is sequoia-nakoma.
for whoever said they liked the name maggie - you wouldn't if you had it. it makes you sound like you're perpetually 8 years old (trust me, i'm a maggie. actually, i'm a marguerite laurel. *pukes a little* too flowery for me.)
anyway, for girls i LOVE the names madison, lexington, and lorelei.
"grace, you're stuffed in a box getting rid of ass plaque. let's face it, this evening is a bust."
