To those who blame it on Global warming a/k/a GWB, I just heard on the news interviews with experts in the field. These rash of storms take place in cycles & we are in the middle of one. This party said maybe 1 MPH in wind gusts is due to global warming
Sorry to disappoint the GWB bashers out there. By the way, the Kyoto treaty was turned down by a unanimous vote in the senate during the Clinton administration. It was flawed as the US would take an economic hit where countries like China & India , because they are "emerging countries" can pollute away with no restrictions. A bit one sided wouldn't you say . All the Dems in the senate voted against it

Certainly, Roxy, you're not seriously trying to float the idea that global warming isn't a huge, one might even say HUGE problem, that contributed to the disasater. And even more perplexing is your willingness to try to overlook the current administration's abyssmal environmental policy and commitment...

I am assuming those who study hurricanes know more than either one of us & this is what they said last night on Channel 2 News
If the Kyoto treaty was the answer, why didn't the senate during Clinton's term OK it? Why didn't Clinton fight more for it? Is is fair to ask the US to take the economic hit while China & India get a pass & can pollute to their hearts content ?
I know it is fashionable to bash GWB but let us look at reality. Many blame Bush for the hurricanes themselves. What would Clinton have done with this, 9/11 etc ? GWB has had more on his plate than any President in recent memory. You can debate all night if you agree with him or not. What would Clinton or Gore have done. Bear in mind both were saying the same thing re Iraq especially Clinton who also said Iraq had WMD but that is another story.
A final thought. Donna Brazile who ran Gore's campaign says GWB is trying & she gives him credit & stands behind him & what he is doing. SHe does not think of him or his response as racist. There is plenty of blame to go around starting with the Governor of La & Mayor of New Orleans
All those worried about global warming can do something for starters
1. Walk instead of drive short distances
2. Trade in your SUV for a fuel efficient car
3. Turn off your air conditioners & sweat
It is easy to complain about global warming. How many people will sacrifice when the pedal meets the metal

Roxy. When you were writing your disjointed posts explaining that you were not going to talk about politics anymore, that you weren't going to even vote (I believe you gave up on W when he began talking up legalizing hispanic illegal immigrants) you said that you did believe that if Kerry were elected president "we will get hit again," speaking of terrorists.
So, it's interesting that now "having a full plate" is an excuse that somehow covers that the very people who are in charge of running the country, who campaigned that they were the only ones who could protect us "if we get hit again," we keep seeing that they, and because of them, WE, are not prepared at all.
Something Clinton did that nobody else had done: made FEMA a cabinet-level position. Bush removed it and allowed hack croneyism to fill the "leadership" positions there.
So there's something major that would have been different.

What an A**hole.
