first day of school here in TX

I stopped by Taco Bell for lunch today after getting my haircut. It is the first day back of the school year and I arrived and was seated JUST before the flood of high schoolers on lunch.I am beginning to think that somehwre, somehow, ther is a class that preppy white girls take when they hit freshman year that teach them how to talk in that annoying voice.....

Wow, you're starting early. I'm not going back to school until the 27th, and class starts on the 30th. And of course, we don't have off for Labor Day because my school doesn't believe in national holidays. :)

yeah, they started the kids back early .

my younger brother is in high school and always goes to the food court at the mall for lunch. I was half tempted to stop by and stake it out and embarass him..LOL.

The high school football teams and bands started practice during days at the beginning of August....

My sister just started marching band camp. It's cute. :)

I, on the other hand, have been working 3 days a week and goofing off or watching shows the other 4. One of the joys of college is the utter lack of summer work.

band camp was FUN.Iloved those years..Marching drill in the AM..music inside in the Pm because of the heat.

Unfortunately, teh first day back for football, a player at a school up by Dallas died of heat stroke.

the schools here are SOO into football. Varisty Blues is almost a documentary of TX football. It is ruthless.

Band was bad as well...Football players in the band used to say that football was a piece of cake compared to band, except for the hits. Our band directors were always VERy careful..we practiced EARLY when it was cooler and they always made us stay well hyrdated and gave us frequent breaks.. the football coaches are not using that samelogic as much....

Thank goodness that I not only went to high school in the northeast, I went to a science magnet school. Not much football love going on there. :)

Football is life here.. it can be quite annoying actually.... science magnet, huh? They were consideringa performing arts magnet here about 4 years ago when they built wo new high schools.. then they decided that there was no point to having a fine arts magnet.

I have a little more than a week till my school starts...just go my schedule. I dont want school to start. And yes during half school days where i live everyone at my school goes to the local mc donalds, BK, taco bell, and steak and shake...and its a complete mad house. They always need police around during those days.

High Schools ere have 'open lunch'. Students are allowed to leave campus during lunch hour... so EVERY day is crazy when lunch time hits.... all of the high schools AND all of the soldiers....

They just started a PA magnet in my high school. It's a shootoff of the visual arts magnet we already had. And despite being directly surrounded by a Boston Market, Coach House, Tan Alley Grill (now turning into Hooters), and MobilMart, only seniors had open lunch, and even then we weren't allowed to cross the street. The rest of us had to sneak out.

Oh, and there was a pizza place down the street, past the cemetary.

Haha....passed the cemetery. I used to live near one, and I'd go down there and chill if I was sad, angry or depressed. A lot of my greatest work was written there, but alas, it's no longer readable.

In Dallas and in all Texas highschools, football takes way too high a priority.

Bg2, where do you go to school?

My high school football team in Spring, TX sucked, so it was all about agriculture and (believe it or not) fine arts at my school. We had the top orchestra and choir in the state for several years and our drill team won nationals more than once.

My school actually didn't have varsity football for years- they reinstated it when I was a freshman. But our best sports teams were in bowling and tennis.

Considering the type of school it was, we also unsurprisingly had a good teams in math, chess, debate, trivia, etc. and some very sucessful science and engineering fair entries. Ah, dorkiness. :)

We start school next Wednesday. I'm looking forward to going back, actually. I want to get it over w/ so I can start w/ college.

And football is priority #1 here in Roaring Spring, Pa, as well. It's almost sad. Kids in the band, marching band, majorettes, girl volleyball players, and x country runners are all considered nerds. Yeah. It blows.
