a green makes the case

in the early 1970s when i helped found greenpeace, i believed that nuclear energy was synonymous with nuclear holocaust, as did most of my compatriots. that's the conviction that inspired greenpeace's first voyage up the spectacular rocky northwest coast to protest the testing of u.s. hydrogen bombs in alaska's aleutian islands. thirty years on, my views have changed, and the rest of the environmental movement needs to update its views, too, because nuclear energy may just be the energy source that can save our planet from another possible disaster: catastrophic climate change.

France uses nuke power for about 50 % of its electrical needs
It is only a matter of time before we resurrect it here as oil supplies are dwindling, prices are increasing & our supplies come from increasing unstable areas
$ 3 a gallon will be a bargain if Iran and/or Venezuela turns off the spigot to the US

Iran is playing with a very big spigot these days.......and I just keep remembering Chernobyl.....
I'm just not sure that is the answer

With China & India growing & with it their thirst for oil, Iran can sell it elsewhere very easily
Since we cannot drill in the arctic because alledgedly some caribou may get agitated & since our driving habits & insatiable thirst for oil will not abate, what is the answer ?
As far as Chernobyl, how long have nukes been operating safely ? By using the argument of an accident, because of oil spills we should stop using oil. There are those who are against wind power as it spoils their views on their beachfront property. Even though we burn coal cleaner & have an almost inexhaustible supply of it, there are those against it as well.
I want someone to say how we can have adequate power with dwindling oil supplies & no ability for nuke or coal power
