It was Papa's 21st birthday. I was 16 but looked older and had the fake ID to prove it...It was a cold December evening and a light snow was falling outside on the street, but inside the Eagle it was HOT...

there i was, deep into my 7th or was it 11th macallan of the night. i was involuntarily humming along to the pulsing rhythms being spun by the dj when i noticed this ravishing dirty blonde staring at me with a quizzical look on her face and what looked like the stem of a cherry poking out from between her beestung lips. once our eyes met, she grinned and the stem disappeared, only to emerge tied in a neat little bow at the end of her tongue.

now i'm not normally one to go in for outward displays of tongue talent, it's my naturally shy wall flowery nature, but something about that smile convinced me to lurch from my stool and swagger (or stagger) down the bar where a seat opened up next to her almost as if it was willed by the fates.

as i settled next to her, my mind raced for a line. hello surely would have been the best option, but at that point i was certain that only something outrageously over the top would be appropos. i was hurriedly trying out opening lines behind what i hoped was a disarming grin when i was suddenly confronted with her speaking.

"you ever been bit by a dead bee," she queried.

"betty, betty, booby, boo," i eloquently responded, somehow managing to keep one eye above her decolletage.
