since the thread i started about the islamic leader who was championing the killing of gays for being, well, gay, seemed to be turning into a discussion of whch religion is the worst towards gays or towards humanity in general, i thought, why not have a new topic? look at this as the place where you can rail against those whose views are abhorrent to any civilized person and those who champion the causes of hatred and intolerance.
so, who's currently got the worst record on gay rights of the major religions?

I've belonged to three Christian denominations during my life. My early years (all the way through parochial high school) were spent as a Missouri Synod Lutheran in the midwest. I can't prove it, but have no doubt that they still use euphamisms to refer to gays. I next attended a United Church of Christ Church. The leadership has a good record, but some of the individual congregations are lagging behind. And now, I've just settled in to a wonderful Episcopal church which is truly open and affirming...to stick to the lingo... They march in the Pride parade as a show of support.
Okay. So that was a positive answer to a negative question, but I'm in that kind of mood.

Isn't one of the African countries the worst? Zumbabwe, maybe?
I'd say the best could be Spain? I mean, they may be Catholic, but gay marriage is legal, right?
