it seems that the chairman of the dnc doesn't know what the party's platform was in 2004...or he's pandering for christian votes. now where are those folks who went vilifying our poor little helium voiced blonde bobblehead for going on the 700 club?

I love how this thread seems to hope beyond hope that somehow we'll all change our minds and see the Republican Party as anything but the imperialistic, overly-fundamental party that it is.

Dean has never shown great leadership when it comes to gay issues. But, at his worst, he's better than most Republicans at their best.
Matt Foreman (one of PalJoey's longtime heroes!) of the NGLTF tore Howard Dean a new azzhole over this and returned the $5000 conbtribution the DNC had given NGLTF.
In response, Dean issued the following statement:
"I misstated the Democratic Party's platform, which does not say that marriage should be limited to a man and a woman, but says the Party is committed to full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation and leaves the issue to the states to decide. The Democratic Party remains committed to equal protection under the law for all Americans. How we achieve that goal continues to be the subject of a contentious debate, but our Party continues to oppose constitutional amendments that seek to short circuit the debate on how to achieve equality for all Americans."
