iPod Touch Question

My parents' old CD changer finally bit the dust, so my brother gave my parents the new iPod Touch for Christmas and I bought them a dock and an external hard drive onto which I loaded a huge music library for them. The dock came with all these adapters for the various iPod models except the Touch, which the manual said was included with the iPods. My brother said his G3 Touch came with the adapter, but there was no adapter with the G4 Touch that I could find. Did anyone else notice this? I found one to purchase from the Apple website for $9, but I'm sort of appalled if this was something they included free with the most recent previous version, but are charging so much now for a ten-cent piece of plastic. Am I missing something here?

How can you place a monetary value on an experience that gives you another chance to decry the cult of Apple and to talk up that company, Drywahl, or whatever, which does everything first and better?

I don't have an answer to your question, but what type of external hard drive did you buy? I'm in the market to buy one and just wondering what you bought?

Namo - Honestly, that wasn't my intention at all. I don't know enough about iPods to know if maybe I had overlooked something. I actually like the new iPod Touch device. Much better than the iPods I owned years ago (if it lasts longer than 13 months). Still hate iTunes, though.

Goth - Western Digital WD Elements. I got the 1T for my parents and the 2T for myself (my parents don't keep video files).

So, I decided to go to the Apple store after work and ask them since NOBODYseemed to know what I was talking about. I spoke to two very nice employees and they did confirm that the G3 and previous models came with the dock adapter, but the G4 did not and it had to be purchased separately. You can buy one online for a mere $13 (including shipping), but in the store they only sell them in packages of 3 for $19.99. Reading the look on my face when they told me this, the guy said, "Yeah. You're totally right. We deserve a major bitch slap for that." I didn't give them any crap because it clearly is not their fault and it was pretty clear they are used to taking some abuse. BUT...they ran into the back and found one loose adapter and gave it to me for free. Their self-awareness and integrity really impressed me. Apple execs could learn a lot from their store employees, who are the ones on the front lines having to deal with their pricing and distribution snafus.

That's kind of what it's like whenever you go into an Apple Store. That's why it has developed that cult you loathe.

I don't loathe the cult. I just don't understand it. What I loathe is Apple's marketing and distribution practices.
