I just started using iTunes and I figure there are some experts on here, so:
I don't have a properly working iPod, is there anyway I can put songs from my iTunes library on another type of MP3 player?
Also, my iTunes store is the Canadian version - this seems to mean I have a different selection of songs/videos available to purchase. (For example, I couldn't buy Ugly Betty from the Canadian iTunes store. You can from the US one, which I can't acesss...) What's the deal?

All I have is an iPod shuffle, but this might be helpful:

And yeah, I don't fully understand the iTunes store thing either. It seems to me that if countries trade with each other in other areas, we should be able to buy online content from each other. I guess it has to do with how licenses for the media content works.
Your iTunes store is whatever the billing address of your credit card is. If your billing address is in Canada, then you can only purchase things through the Canadian iTunes store.
I don't know why you can't access the US iTunes store. The country-selector is at the bottom of the iTunes store. I just tried visiting the Canadian store and came back to the US store, and everything is working.
You might need to sign up for a new account.
I think iTunes only works with iPods. You can use iTunes for listening purposes and keeping your music organized, but you might not be able to load songs to your mp3 player through it. Also, purchased music from the iTunes store might not work with your mp3 player because they are in AAC protected format. You'd have to purchase iTunes Plus (non-protected DRM-free) and convert the songs to MP3, which kinda sounds like a pain.
I recommend Amazon.com mp3. The have a decent selection and everything is DRM-free. Everything can also be played on all mp3 players, and also iTunes.
actually you can access different country itunes websites, but you cannot buy from them......even if you start a new account for that country AND had an address you could use there, your credit card gives you away as a Canadian citizen and they will not allow the sale........
of course not that I tried anything like that with the German site...I certainly would never do that....yeah, right....
I didn't know that you couldn't buy songs/videos from an international Itunes even if your credit card shows that you live in Canada. I guess this is similar to the fact that if you wanted to watch Ugly Betty (or any American show on thier American channel) and you went to ABC.com. The site wouldn't let you because you wouldn't have an IP address. (Of course when you travel your IP address changes). My brother found this out when he had a semester in Rome and couldn't watch some of his shows on the channel's websites because he was in another country and his computer showed that.
If you wanted to watch Ugly Betty (Which I think is aired in Canada as well as America) the best bet seems to be to see if the channel it is aired on in Canada offers it to be streamed online. I understand that you want to have it on your MP3 player and not watch it on your computer but that was just a suggestion.
I wouldn't be shocked to hear that ABC has an exclusive contract with iTunes that only ABC can sell the show on Itunes and not any other country.

Thanks for the posts, everyone!
Clearly iTunes hates me. Now it won't even open for me.
You can still use iTunes as your music player, but it depends on your mp3 player. You obviously won't be able to directly connect w/ it since iTunes only connects w/ iPods. I use an iPod now but when I had an mp3 player, I had to keep all my music in one folder so I could copy songs into the folder that came up when my mp3 player was connected. So you should probably double check your mp3 player's directions to see how to put songs on it. It probably won't interfere w/ iTunes being your music player.
