#0iTunes questions for Mac users
Posted: 1/14/06 at 2:07pm

I never noticed this when I used iTunes on a PC, so I'm assuming it's something exclusive to the Mac version. I have some stuff that's mis-titled, or not titled at all, but I can't edit the song info. I'm simply not able to click on the fields, or to type in them. I'm assuming it's probably got something to do with the fact that these were files sent to me from others, and not things I uploaded myself, but it's driving me crazy. Does anyone know how I can edit these?

Also, is there a way to convert wav files so they can be played in iTunes?

Thanks.

I've never had a problem changing information on any song. Single click on the song and then select command - i for the song info. Once the info box opens you have options at the top, choose Info. You can then change any information that you would like.

You should not have to convert a wav file for it to play in iTunes. Just double click on it and it should open in the iTunes Library or add it to the Library and you should be able to play it.

Thanks. I tried that, and had the info tab open, but my problem is that I simply can not click in the fields. The problem only occurs with certain songs, though.

The wav files open in Quicktime, and if I try to put them into my iTunes library, nothing happens.

Single click on any wav file and get info (command - i) In that box you will see an "Open with" tab, choose that and then tell it to open with iTunes. It will ask if you would like to open all wav files with iTunes and if you would, say yes. You should then be able to click on any wav files and they should open in iTunes.

Hm. Now when I click them, they do open in iTunes, but when I go through iTunes and choose to add them to the library, nothing happens.

If you double click on then iTunes should automatically add them to your iTunes Library.

Emcee,

Did you just get a mac? When I got mine I thought it was so confusing, but after about a few days I realized how incredibly simple it really is. Try opening Finder and selecting the WAV files in there...select them and physically drag them into your itunes library, same for iphoto etc.

As far as editing the info, Did you try editing the info before you import them?

Good luck, let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Yeah, my Mac is only about three weeks old. I'm almost completely used to it by now, but every so often I still find a little nuance that throws me.

Thanks. re: iTunes questions for Mac users

Nevermind, I didn't see you figured it out.

Argh. I'm still having the first problem. I can't edit the song info, in iTunes OR just in the regular folder.

Anybody?

A simple way to change song info it to hilight the song and then left click once. A text box will appear and you can edit it. You can also right click and got to get info. You can also select it and use apple/control i.

Ugh. Staci's solution works, but not on the songs that are giving me trouble. This is ridiculous.

Is it possible that all of the songs that you are trying to change are from someone else? Have they been copied to your computer and not imported from a CD? You might need to change the ownership of the actual file before you can edit it.
