hey!! im gunna audition for into the woods ive never really heard of it before but im auditioning for it someone the songs i am thinking of are:
climb every mountain-sound of music
somewhere-west side story
tonight-west side story
are these good songs??
If you are a musical theater enthusiast, (which I assume you are since you are auditioning for a musical) you need to familiarize yourself with at least the well known works of Stephen Sondheim, who is one of the most influential composers in the history of modern theater. (FYI, Sondheim wrote "Into the Woods" IMO one of the greatest musicals to ever grace the Broadway stage). I can assure you that saying you've never heard of Into the Woods would be a great conversation stopper if you are talking to anyone who is passionate about theater.
Now that I have gotten that out of my system, I will apologize for being pretentious, but there is no excuse for a performer not knowing Sondheim's work. (I say this with a smile, please do not be offended)
That being said, an appropriate audition song for a Sondheim show would be one that showcases not only your singing ability, but also strong acting. I would not recommend and of the three songs listed, but since you seem to be a soprano, I will go ahead and recommend "Unusual Way" from the musical "Nine." Break a leg!

Do you even have an idea of what you would like to audition for? I was in Into the Woods a few months ago and I had to go through the hardest audition of my life for the part of Little Red Riding Hood....let me know what part you're auditioning for and maybe I could help...

Okay well those parts are obviously completely different. I think alot of what you audition for should reflect what you feel comfortable with. For example, I am the "goof ball" in theatre and enjoy being the comic relief so that's why I went for Little Red. With Cinderella you have to have a VERY sweet sounding voice. The Baker's Wife is more of a seductive characte and likes to take control. I think you should just get a feel for whom you must relate to in real life and then take that and internalize your character and you'll be fine for auditions. And don't worry about your song as much...I was up against amazing singers but what got me through was my characterization was better. So, if you can't sing it, sell it.
