I'm sorry, but did Dennis Quaid REALLY think that was funny? The people at the Brokeback Mountain table were stunned, as was I. How utterly insulting, and in my opinion.... a bit homophbic.......very poor taste

I didn't think it was all that funny, but it didn't really bug me.

Obviously no one in the room thought it was funny either. That was one of the most awkward moments I have ever witnessed on live television.

I only hope, for Mr. Quaid's sake, that it was scripted and not an ad-lib.

From the moments that I caught, there were too many terrible "one liners", beginning with Isaac Mizrahi on the red carpet. This show really lacked class.

What was the full script of what he said?

It took me a couple seconds to realize what he'd said, and I still wasn't sure until boobs commented about it in the globes thread.

Dennis Quaid doesn't strike me as homophobic. I remember reading a few interviews he did about Far From Heaven and he never said anything that gave me that impression. I was impressed with how he described discussing the role with his 10-year-old son. I'm guessing that it was scripted. It's not the worst joke I've ever heard, but it was totally inappropriate for an awards show.

It seemed to come completely out of left field. It was at the tail end of his introduction to the Brokeback clip. And even if it was scripted (which, I doubt), he should have had the good sense to know how insipid and tacky a remark it was, and refused to have said it. Maybe he's still trying to play down his role in Far From Heaven. I don't know, maybe I'm just being too humorless about the whole thing.

Something to the effect of (I’m paraphrasing)… and now here's a clip from the movie that, well let's just say that it rhymes with "chick flick", Brokeback Mountain.

i doubt he is homophobic since he did make far from heaven and all. i'm sure it was just a mixture of wine and him trying to make people laugh. alot of stars seemed to say stupid things last night. blame it on that open bar..lol

Quaid is not homophobic, he actually was the grand marshall at our college's gay pride parade back in 1996.

but did he mean "dick flick"? cuz that doesnt really make sense.

I don't think Dennis Quaid meant ill -- his brother is in the movie, after all -- but it was a tasteless joke nonethless. Both this Sean Haye's BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN joke elicited groans from the audience.

Yea, it was very awkward.

Another extremely awkward, possibly inappropriate moment goes, once again, to Chris Rock - void of all class. There's no need to make a black joke just to get a laugh. And it was funny to see him basically insult WEEDS and Mary Louise Parker, realize he was going no where with it, then make a stupid comment about Snoop Dog. I'm SO glad he's not hosting the Oscars this year.

"There's no need to make a black joke just to get a laugh."

Yes, but then Chris Rock wouldn't have a career. Black jokes are all he has.

Chris Rock is the one trick pony of comedy.
