I've been to both the German and French itunes store, yet cannot buy anything. Even if I try to start a new account, for example, it lists the country as Germany, which of course is not the address for my credit card.
Anyone know why this is, or if there's a way around it?
I think it's probably a rights and/or royalties thing. I know there were some songs I wanted a while back that were not available here, but that were available in the UK. It wouldn't let me buy them either.
You'd have to have a billing address in that particular country. I wanted to purchase a song from the UK store but couldn't. It probably is a rights thing like munkustrap178 said. I don't think there is any way around this. Maybe if you have a friend in Germany who can help you out..
You can try to send iTunes a request. There should be a link in the US store. I tried once years ago but it did not work.
I don't think sending iTunes a request would do anything. It's not iTunes' decision. It's most certainly a legal thing.
You could always just order the CDs from amazon. They'll ship anywhere, from any amazon website. I order lots of stuff from amazon.co.uk.
yup, but I only want them on my Ipod.....and it's cheaper to get them that way.
We have a friend in Austria, I may try to work something out with him.....
or I may just break down and do as Munk suggest, especially as we'll be over there for three weeks next month
Did you check to see if it's available on any of the other music downloading sites, like amazon.com or napster? Then you can transfer it to iTunes.
The easiest way to purchase songs from an iTunes store in the UK, Germany etc. is to buy a gift certificate for that particular country (eBay is probably your best bet here and you just will need the code number so you don't have to have the actual certificate in hand or if you have a friend in the country they can buy it for you).
Setup a new account for that country (use any address) and where it asks you for your credit card number leave it blank. Go into that iTunes Store and under Quick Links select "Redeem". Put in your gift certificate number. iTunes will show you the balance of the card you purchased and you can then buy songs until the amount of that certificate has been fully deducted.
That is the same procedure that you would use for a US Gift Certificate so just be sure that the certificate you purchase is from the country where you would like to buy the songs.
Very interesting!

Everything always costs more in the UK. £0.79 a song, £7.99 an album. That's $1.58 and $15.98. Oh well, I guess it's better than paying for shipping.
Pab, I LOVE YOU.....you always have the answers.....and I'll pick up the gift certificates in Germany next month!
