hey guys,
i am so used to playing character/comedic roles, that most of the songs i have for auditions are belty/fun/popish. now i need a "legit, standard broadway" piece...and i dont even know if i have one in my repetoire! i know legit songs can still be upbeat, right? so basically i am just asking for some examples of songs....i think i would prefer to do an upbeat legit song, but i'm not sure i know where to start! is "Not at all in Love" from Pajama Game considered this type of song? what about "You Oughta Be Here with Me" from Big River?? help please! :)

Say legit one more time...

If you're looking for standard broadway, look at shows like Oklahoma, Carouseland Secret Garden. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a good show to choose a song from for you, since you have experience with belting. "Gimmie, Gimmie", maybe?

Gimme Gimme from Millie is legit? I kinda thought it was very contemporary sounding, at least compared to the sound of Oklahoma and other shows like it.

Anything from any show by Rogers & Hammerstein or Hart, Cole Porter, or Irving Berlin would probably work. Do you know Always True to you in My Fashion from Kiss Me, Kate? That is a great standard belting song.
