Here is the information about the CBS Early Show's "My Broadway Debut" segment that I posted on a rival MT college forum:
CBS' The Early Show is conducting a week-long American Idol style talent competition entitled, “My Broadway Debut”. Five universities with musical theatre programs were chosen to audition students for the segment. The schools selected were Florida State University, the University of Michigan, Northwestern University, the University of Arizona, and Wagner College. Bernard Telsey Casting went to each school and selected two students from an audition and interview process. The ten students are flying to New York at the end of the month and will rehearse with seasoned Broadway performers from five current productions: Rent, Chicago, The Wedding Singer, Hairspray, and Avenue Q. The students will perform live during the week of May 29. At the end of the week viewers will get to vote for their favorite male and their favorite female student. The two winners will receive contracts for a one-day walk-on role in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”.
The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday, May 29th (RENT)
Justin Bowen (Mark)- Florida State University - "What You Own"
Cortney Wolfson (Maureen) - Michigan - "Take Me or Leave Me"
Tuesday, May 30th (CHICAGO)
Kate Fitzgibbons (Velma) - Arizona - "All That Jazz"
Sean Carroll (Billy Flynn) - Northwestern - "All I Care About is Love" or "Razzle Dazzle"
Wednesday, May 31st (THE WEDDING SINGER)
Kyle Harris (Robbie Hart) - Arizona - "Somebody Kill Me"
Katherine Palardy (Julia) - Northwestern - "Dumpster Song"
Thursday, June 1st (HAIRSPRAY)
Amanda Snarski (Tracy) - Wagner - "Good Morning Baltimore" or "Can't Stop the Beat"
Andrew Arrington (Seaweed) - Michigan- "Run and Tell That"
Friday, June 2nd (AVENUE Q)
Junior Mendez (Princeton) - Florida State University- "Purpose"
Brianna Horne (Lucy) - Wagner - "Fine, Fine Line"
Voting begins at 9:00 A.M. EDT after Friday's show and ends at midnight. Winners will be revealed on Monday, June 5th and will perform a song from "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" before heading off for their Broadway debut and behind-the-scenes feature, which will air in advance of the Tony Awards. It sounds like it should be fun. Prepare to get up early or set your VCRs
